Well, I think she's just about finished now, only 1 or 2 more things I'm gonna do to her but for the most part, done! It's actually an '85 model that I wanted to convert to the 1987 look that has only been seen in brochures on the web....hopefully someone will find a real '87 one day :naughty: . I owe a big thanks to my boy Clay(ClayW) for doing an awesome job on the tank and helping me paint some other things for it. The bike had less than 40 hours on it when I got it and had never even had it's first oil change! I started it up about half way through the restore and it runs great...no smoke or anything! Everything on it is original OEM except for the front & rear fender and tires. I'm sure I'll here some comments from the peanut gallery on the year ID sticker LOL:lol: . An '87 350X wouldn't be complete without the keyed ignition, so I had to put one on it of course. Well let me know what you guys think, I'm posting pics showing as many views as I can of it :pics:

Thats one nice bike. I wish mine was that nice.

firefirefire90
03-31-2006, 09:29 PM
so does the keyed ignition acutally work? Would be cool if you somehow made it work and made all the lights work. Now you need to change the vin number and engine number to 1987!!! That would be the best. Good on ya. Now you need a 87' 125, 200x, SX, and 250R and you would be set!

patblkwell
03-31-2006, 09:39 PM
I am still in the process of getting the ignition wired up....have been so busy lately that I haven't had time to finish....I'm pretty sure it will work because I'm gonna wire it just like the big red and hopefully I can get the green neutral light to light up when it's in neutral. Yeah, so many more '87 trikes I still need lol...the 250R would be nice.

ClayW
03-31-2006, 09:46 PM
What a HEAP!!!! Man I tell ya. That boy worked me a little too hard on that bike;) . And I am 500 miles away. Just kidding.:D Pat it looks good bra. Get you some of those Curb feelers I mean Brush feelers on there and you will have it all my friend. Looks good. Now is it actually going to be ridden. Thats the question. LOL

Maine_Triker
03-31-2006, 09:49 PM
Hmmm.... I think the only thing I would of done different is use an 'ATC' speedo instead of that red one, but that's probably just your temporary anyway. lol

Phil (still drooling)

patblkwell
03-31-2006, 09:54 PM
Well, with the crazy prices those ATC ones are going for...I may have to ride with that one for now(which I got for free  ). Haha, I really can't wait to go ride it now....hopefully next weekend I'll have a chance to. I hope it rides as good as it looks :naughty: .

The '87 year sticker on the neck was special made for me by Harlan. The tank scoops are oem red ones that were painted Honda white.

04-01-2006, 10:56 AM
Hey Pat,she sure does look very nice, most impressive !! I know where your coming from when you say that you are glad the project is done. Is that the machine that you were needing the back bar for? The wing decal on the tank, now that looks tight. Mine is almost there and I am very anxious to get it done,I was actually at a scrap yard awhile back and found a frame that had a '87 decal on it. I should investigate into that more. Were the '87's avaliable here!!! Very nice machine!!!!!!

patblkwell
04-01-2006, 11:20 AM
Hey man thanks, yeah that is the one I had needed a stock grab bar for a while back...finally found a good used one that I cleaned up. Yeah I really like the '87 wing decal color scheme...definitely stands out. Was that a 350X frame that had an '87 year id sticker on it?

nouseforaname90
04-01-2006, 11:34 AM
Nice job Pat. I bought a beat 350X that I was planning on restoring, but after I got knee-deep in the project I realized that it would be way too hard to completely restore.. lol. So right now I'm in the process of trying to make it look nice atleast. Its not going to look as nice as yours, though!! Great job.

sandpuppi101
04-01-2006, 11:37 AM
Yeah, it was mostly just the frame.I saw it and never really checked it over that good. Not until I started figuring out how many differences in the '85 to '86 350's did I even really think about that frame. I 'll tell you what when I get done with mine ,I will have been so educated in these 350 X's ,that I could have a doctorate in em' . I just sent my motor out last nite to get a little dolled up!!! So your machine is an '85 with real low hours on it,now thats very rare!!!You will be having the machine at Trikefest wont you!!

patblkwell
04-01-2006, 11:44 AM
Well here is the brochure pic that inspired me to do the 1987 theme on the 350X. Close, or no cigar? For some reason, the one in the brochure doesn't have the side panel ATC decals...maybe it was a Canadian thing :beer

sandpuppi101
04-01-2006, 11:56 AM
Personally ,in that pic- I think your looks better than the one in the brochure!! Where did you end up getting the wing and the side fender decals at! I have a stock white set off an 86,and it does'nt have the side decals either! I don't think Harlan has them does he! Please let me know,I would appreciate it!! And how about Trikefest, you are going -are'nt you???

chris200x
04-01-2006, 11:57 AM
If I didn't know any better I would say yours is an 87' for sure..

patblkwell
04-01-2006, 11:58 AM
Hey Sandpuppi, I got both the wing decals and the side panel ones from Harlan...he's awesome at replicating! I'm planning on going to trikefest most likely, I am probably going to bring my big red...but we'll see :naughty:

Darius1502
04-01-2006, 04:52 PM
First....it looks awesome!!

Second,

Add some red to the back side of the fenders to make it look like it has the red garnish. It could be done simply by adding red vinyl and covering the back flap.

great work....love the tank decals...FIRST CLASS!!

Pat, very nice work. I think that is one of the nicest 350X's on the board. The cool thing about it is that you did something different. Still looks OEM yet unique.

So looking at that brochure that you posted, it looks like the 87 rear mud flap would have been red instead of black. Never noticed that before.

Anyhow, nice bike!

patblkwell
04-01-2006, 05:59 PM
Yep, Harlan is the man for sure when it comes to the ATC decals. Yeah, I was thinking at one time about doing a rear red garnish...but didn't want it to look too tacky or anything you know. Since I have the maier fenders, there is already a pre-molded garnish...if I had the stock fender with separate mudflap, I would have painted the mudflap Honda red and then it would have been good to go...haha maybe one day if I stumble across a NOS rear fender...

Yamahauler
04-01-2006, 06:17 PM
Is this a photochop?

patblkwell
04-01-2006, 06:48 PM
Haha, yeah I'd have to say that is a photoshop pic....that looks more like the '87 200X than anything..

BLAZERONE22
04-03-2006, 10:32 PM
You did a great job on this bike... I'm glad you did a 87 look alike, I almost started in that direction on the getto bike but decided I did'nt want to spend the big bucks for a great looking OEM rear fender, but the maier actually came out looking rear good on there... Are you really going to muddy it up???:w00t:

redneck_09
04-03-2006, 10:43 PM
wow, that is one kick ass 350x. I would love to have one to restore. That is just plain awsome:drool: good job man:beer

04-04-2006, 12:18 AM
Thanks again guys, haha nah....I barely get my '87 Big Red muddy lol...I doubt this one will ever see mud...unless I have to go through a tiny bit on a trail...no plans on burrying it in mud that's for sure!

patblkwell
04-04-2006, 12:26 AM
Hey just a question...did you get the seat made up to look 87? I know they changed something with the A?
Hmm...not sure what you mean? I got the seat cover with the ATC logos and put my own Honda logo on the back of it...what's the A you are talking about?

firefirefire90
04-04-2006, 12:50 AM
Well i was looking on the "Quest for the 1987 trikes" page and i looked closely at the 1987 350x. On the seat, instead of the "blue line" Going all across the "ATC" lettering(like the 86), the first part of the "A" did not have a line through it. I am NOT refering to the 1987 250R that had a triangle in the A.

patblkwell
04-04-2006, 01:02 AM
Oh ok, no I think my seat cover is like the '86 model...didn't really have a choice on that one haha.

That's an '86 350X pictured on that page...the headlight looks to be the standard dual bulb one. The 250ES toolbox lids are discontinued but you can get an aftermarket one from Maier.

UM ... look at the pic again... under the headlight the plastic looks different it does not fold back right under the glass it looks like the plastic keeps going down for about 2". i thought i it might be something behind the headlight that was red ( like the frame) but in the picture it looks like it sticks out a little past the headlight. you might have to save it to your pics and then soom in to see what i am talking about.

patblkwell
04-11-2006, 11:17 PM
I'm not sure about that pic of the '86 350X, doesn't look to different from normal ones...most likely it just looks different due to the angle the pic was taken and also the dark area under the headlight..

04-11-2006, 11:18 PM
