Well since I couldnot sell this quad, I am going to keep it due to the fact that my buddy wants to get the new lt450. Now I know that nothing could be done to this quad to make it keep up with the 450's but for what we ride I think the 230 will still be a good quad. Anybody have any mods that will really wake up this engine, but still keep some of the reliability. I dont want to be out in the trails and have the engine blow because of some stupid part that only adds like half a horse. Im thinking the Cobra exhaust, UNI air filter, no airbox lid, maybe .40 over, and a high comp. piston (any ideas on how they do, and where to get the high comp.??)
Maybe a webcams cam (again any ideas on how they are? stage 2?).
So far Thats all that I can think of engine wise. I have a job now, so the budget is a little more open now, but I still dont want to go over about 800 or so right now. Heres a list of everyting I plan on doing..
Maxxis Razr 20x11x10 rear tires mounted on douglas .160 rims (177.00)
Lone Star parking brake block off (12.00)
Motion pro clutch cable (12.00)
UNI air filter (22.00)
All Balls swingarm bearing kit (36.00)
DG Steel nerfs (129.00)
cobra exhaust (130.00)

So far this is around 506.00
any other ideas for this thing? and do you think it would be able to keep up with say a sstock 400ex or ltz400?

any input would be greatly appreciated...

I know there aren't many options on exhaust for the old LT's but i would stay away from cobra. I have never heard a good thing about them, only negative things. On another note, how hard did you try to sell the quad? If you could get over a grand for it, depeninding on condition or what not, you could find a used 400ex for the 2000-2500 price range. I dont care what you did to the LT, it wont be able to keep up with the 450's and doubtful that it could keep up with the 400's. Granted I have only ridden one LT in my life, i just couldnt see it keeping up with my z400.

you can put a aftermarket carb from Keihin at http://www.dgperf.com/Keihin/Keihinproducts.asp?BrandID=3&Model=85-88+Quad+230%2FQuad+250&Submit=Go you can by an pipes systeme from www.FMFracing.com. stay away from High comp piston and cams because if they aren't dial right you will blow youre engine.

Put a Honda 200x in it. Lol I agree with xowner. I did the top end on 1 of ours for my wife or my daughter to ride and it just doesn’t have the speed or the torque that the one we put the 200x motor has. I would leave it and save your money for a different quad that has more after market parts available for it.

I have all the above mods done to mine and I'm sure a 400ex will waste it, you will definatly want some different gears and while its apart you might as well rebuild the crank because its not gonna last long.

See to me Cobra is a generic brand of aftermarket pipe, partially because they make pipes for every ATv I know of, and I dont like them much because of that. I would personally go with a nice aluminum pipe like a DG, bigger carb (a 27mm is plenty big), no air lid, 20" tires, (BTW boring isnt a performance modd) high comp pistion ( like a nice 10.25:1), and if you really want to get a mild cam like you've wanted. Thats my opinion.

and drop the nerf bars, they don't make you go faster! they'l just add weight and take away money from other go fast goddies.

Got the LT250R steering stem in today, Might need to re adjust tie rids but it went in pretty good, with a little mods (had to grind down the little bump stop mounts). Should have it finished tomarrow, then I plan on getting new tires and rims (front and rear), than exhaust and air filter, bars, and new throttle (one without light switch on it) and I think I will be done with it. Going to go to RMATV right now to price front tires and rims.

Allright got a price on some Maxxis Razr's for the rear, 20x11x9 mounted on Douglas .160 black label wheels for around 170.00 USD.. does that sound good? anyone know where to get some for less money?? Another thing, Anyone have any idea on if the quadracers used the same chassis as the quadsports? I know the bumpers look the same on all, just wondering because I might get a new bumper and grabber if they interchange, so any ideas on that? Im going to buy things one at a time, and when its done it should be a nice little quad.

Hey I got it all figured out today. The Sx carb with the SX throttle line was a little short (remember how I routed it?) so i ordered a 350x throttle cable last week and I threw it on today. Now it fits beautiful with several inches to spare. Just a little heads up.

Sweet. I might get the carb/throttle cable depending on how I can get it to run with the stocker after a good cleaning and jet kit. Plan on getting some things in the next 2 weeks after my car is paid off, then some other things like exhaust and rims/tires..

:w00t: I finally got to ride my quadsport yesterday after having it sit for 2 months (Had to get some new axel bearings in it and couldnt get motivated). I forgot how easily it powerslides and just how much i missed it. Gotta love these machines.

yea thats it, the chain came off a few times too but thats cause it was loose.. gonna have to check my brakes too, the rears let out down a hill, and the fluids empty, second time its happened since I got it.. ?? gonna stich the fenders again, lost a big chunk from the rear left but whatever..

Ordered a twist throttle, swinger bearings, and a new chain, got new bars and grips, and a clutch perch and lever, but the levers off a crf and the perch is for a cr so it doesnt fit. i got some pics from the other day at the mud pit hopefully they work,,

Phew I went riding with my buddy today and damn! We went to his track and he forgot to mention he made the one jump a double, so here I am in like 4th gear hit the jump and look down and the ground just drops , lol luckily I landed about 10 feet past the jump. Phew scary stuff though. I'll get some pics hopefully tomorrow of us hitting some mud holes. We went through a few hairy ones today that I thought I'd never makie it through with the trail pros. Well enough rambling, Ride On!

yeah. I also race cut my front fenders and plan on getting new rears soon (after rims, tires etc) and I made a exhaust for it for now untill I get my DG or Cobra, its just a larger 50 header, cut, put it inside the stock header and put an aftermarket 50 silencer on it, and it sounds nice, havent noticed any performance though, but then again it is a hackjob sort of thing, so I can wait fo rmy actual exhaust to try and get some performance out of her. Ill get some new pics some other time, and I need new tires now.. i have a nice 5" gash in my left rear sidewall, yeah that was a fun ride to the truck.
