After the summer/fall season has ended I plan on getting an ESR "econo 310 kit". It's the $799 dollar one in here http://www.esr250.com/cylinder_kits.htm#esrbolton
My question is, Can I keep my 34mm carb on the 310cc engine for a little while, just till I get my 38mm carb down the road???? Will a 310R run on a 34mm carb???
Thanks, Devin

If you are going to invest $800 into a 310 kit, my opinion is that you should spend the extra $100 and get a bigger carb. The 310 kit would be pointless without a bigger carb. You would have to rejet your current carb for the 310 kit, and it wouldn't make anywhere near the power it should..

Is it possible to shave the intake side of the carb (like the cylinder) to get a couple more mm out of it????

You can have a carb bored out, not sure how far you can go though....

Buy a 38mm carb NOW, it will give you a good boost. They you'll be set when you upgrade to the 310 IMO.:beer

I've had car TBs borred out, on a lathe with nice precision, a few mm's but theres much more meat on those. Then you need to make sure the slide still fits right (had to make new butterflys for the TBs). I wouldn't mess around with a bike carb. Too much work and too easy to screw up IMO.
