XR 200 Question ????

Working on my buddies XR 200,I think its a '98! Anyways here is the issue,the bike simply is a bear to get into 1st gear.I rode it,and when you try to get 1st weather downshifting or stopped ,I simply cant find it.The clutch feels fine,all of the other gears seem to work fine! I am just looking to see if any of you's have ever had a similar issue! I took off the right side and at that point rite now!! Any info would be gladly appreciated!!!;)

Does the shift star look ok? I have never been into a XR200 but some bikes have shift stars that can chip or break and cause problems

Try putting stiffer clutch springs in. I had the same problem on my WR and the stiffer springs did the trick.

Ok,I see what you guys are saying ! The shift star appears to be ok,on the linkage from the shift rod to the shift star,Now that has polished wear on the outer part! If I put preassure ,On the shift rod from the clutch side,pushing toward the inner case ,It shifts fine! That would tell me that it is in fact the What? Is it the shift spring then???

I am a little confused on what your saying, What do you mean by this side of the clutch? It sounds like whatever you are pushing on (shift linkage) is worn out.

Well Lomax,by clutch side I am meaning the right side of motor.If I put preassure on the shift rod ,pushing into the motor,it shifts fine! I know its confusing,and hard to explain!!!
