How do i get this $%#$*# bolt out

i cant get my swing arm bolt out for nothing can someone help me im about ready to start cutin on it !!

I've run into this problem a couple of times and your right it can be a #%#@*. All you can do is try and get some lubricant down around the bolt then put a nut on the swingarm bolt and swing away with good 2 pound hammer, be careful not to mess up the threads, if that does not work you will have to get a propane torch and heat the swingarm on both sides were the bolt goes through, try not to over heat and swing away. Sometimes all this will get you nowhere when those pin bearings stick sometimes they are stuck for good. Goodluck

Usually if they are stuck it is the collar that rides between the bolt and the bearing that gets rusted onto the bolt and wont come off. I ended up drilling the bolt out on both sides of the frame and then wiggling and prying until the arm came out. Once the arm is out the remainder of the bolt slides right out since the collar isn't hitting the frame anymore. If you have access to a good air hammer you will have better luck with it than with a sledge hammer because the air hammer hits it so fast it may jar it loose. Basically there is no good way to do it except to pull it out and lube it every year like I do.

on my tiger, the swingarm bolt was corroded to the engine (dissimilar metals will cause this) I got the nuts off, and kept using washers to build up the bearing surface and pulled it out that way. (my buddy came up with that idea) it worked great.

The way I get them out is by backing the nut off until it’s flush with the end of the threads on the bolt (this will protect threads), then I use a 2 1/2 lb short handle sledgehammer on the nut to drive the bolt in some. Then I remove the nut and use a punch of the correct size to drive the bolt out the rest of the way. I use a barker bar and socket to turn the bolt head to loosen it up in between driving the punch. I also use penetrating oil.

cut it off, i've tried for hours to get a few of them out and its almost no ho hope, i had to cut it off, my grandparents stuck the bushings with cut cut bolt inside on a 1 ton press and it didn't budge!!!! good luck.

More than likely the bushings are seized to the bolt from rust. Take and steel blade and a reciprocating blade and cut it and tap ou the pieces.
Hopefully one of these ideas will work!

yeah, they are a real s.o.b. to get out sometimes.
i usally get the ones that are froozen at the center, not so much at the roller bearings but you won't know that till you do get it out and see what is the most rusted.
anyway,,, lots of heat to it and lots of steady hammering will eventully get it. last one took me 2-3 hours (including breaks)
i have one for sale if ya need it.

I had the same problem with my 85 250r. I tried a torch I tried to pound it out I tried to drill it out but the bolt is tough I then cut It out. The whole process took me about a week of nights. I also had to buy a new swing arm bolt from Honda not cheap.

Cut it off with a sawsall, don't mess around I'm 0-3 on extracting stuck swingarm bolts. your going to screw the bearings up anyway. :twisted:
