Throttle cable 250R

My 86R has a 85 motor, 86 carb. The cable that's on it is 43 1/2". I ordered a new cable from Dennis Kirk for 86ATC and 86-89TRX's and it's 46" long. The one on it now is too long, I have every adjustment all the way out and it is barely enough to open the slide all the way up. Any ideas what cable I need? How long is the 85 cable vs the 86 cable?

my parts unlimited book list that 81-82 are the same 83-84 are the same 85 and 86 are differnt part #s but thats all it tells me sorry

they do sell extra long cable adjusters that go in the carb cap you could try useing one of them to take up the slack Ive done it and it works well,or stack 2 short ones up if you have them laying around to see if it will work. then go buy the one pice for a few dollars.
