Ok. So this isnt' really a big deal, but its been bothering me and if I can do something about it, I will.
So.. there is a teacher at school that was really awesome at the beginning of the year, but now he is turning into a total jerk. A few days ago, he walked past a study hall while some kid from my Biology class was saying "I have Mr. Ewings stupid class for an hour and 45 minutes tomorrow..". Just being sarcastic, you know? Ok.. well Mr. Ewing heard it, came in the room, and FLIPPED out.
The next day in Bio, he started giving us all this work and told us that if ANYONE talked, he would write them up and make sure we get a detention. In 3 days, he has written up 8 people. Whether for asking for a piece of paper or what, he wrote them up. So then today he gave us a speil. He was like "I tried to be nice to you guys and make this class fun, but apparently a few people don't like that. So since there was a remark made about my class by a certain individual in a studyhall, I'm going to show you guys how big of a jerk I can be for the rest of the year. Incase anyone was wondering, all of the work you have been getting and WILL be getting is because of the remark that was made, not because of how you behaved."
So my question is.. isn't that infringing on Rohn's (the kid that said it) freedom of speech? He is punishing us because Rohn said that his class was stupid.. but at the same time, it was not meant to be heard by Mr. Ewing, or intent to hurt Mr. Ewing.. it was about his class, which Rohn hates biology and is not good at it. Is Mr. Ewing allowed to punish ANYONE (the whole class is who he is punishing now) because of what Rohn said? Last time I checked, noone could be punished for their opinions, beliefs, or what they say unless it hurts or infringes upon another persons rights.. which this comment certainly did not.
It's just making me mad because he gave us FIVE pages of work to do over Easter break, so I'm going to have like no free time, and he piles the work on us in class and we aren't allowed to talk.. It's getting annoying and if I can get a good enough case, I'm going to turn him into the office so he stops his crap. The rest of the bio classes went outside and had a free-day today while our class had to sit in the classroom and copy vocab words out of the book...

Just curious..

Do what we used to do to teachers we didnt like. Drop your pens at the sametime or, push your book off your desk at the same time. You know, something like that. If he's not going to play nice, then why should the students. I know it sounds mean, but I've been in this situation.. You could also report it to the principle. We did that and we ended up getting the teacher fired :w00t:

Well if we all dropped our pens or books at the same time, he would write us all up no quesitons asked. You can't do anything to him, you definately have to go to an outside source.. talking to him will get me nowhere. I was just wondering if I had enough to turn him into the office?

I would try to talk to your teacher first and voice your opinion. It don't seem like it could get much worse anyway. I hate to play devil's advocate, but he has a responsibility to teach you, not to be your friend. I've had teachers like that and it sucks. But when you hit college most teachers are like that.

Some of my classmates did try to talk to him, and he simply said "You did it to yourself."
I know he was a responsibility to teach us and not be our friend, but we didn't do anything. We are a good class, he is just doing all of this because of what Rohn said.. not because we were bad..

Well, if your class tried to talk to him already and that didn't work I would move up to his boss.
I'm not taking his side or anything, but unless you can absolutely prove that he is being unfair I don't think there is much you can do.

Take it as a hint, in real life, you say something like that in front of or behind the back of a co-worker, supervisor etc. they can make life difficult to say the least.
They offender should apologise for the remark, but realistically if your high school teacher wants to assign as much work as they think neccessary to ensure you learn the basic course ciriculum and if that includes detention (for class room disruption, poor marks, whatever), tons of home work etc. HE CAN DO IT. You need to read the school districts policies and procedures, He cannot focus on one student (discrimination) but he can focus on an overall class to "improve' it. My guess is your out of luck, get your parents to file a complaint with the school district (if they will) and all your classmates parents to do the same, then something may happen, students whining will have no weight what so ever.

I agree, go to the principal, and if there is no dice there, go to the school board, and if that doesnt work, well time to get your parents in it and talking to the teachers, principals and school board, I dont think there is alot of legalish stuff on homework, by the way, what grade are you in.

Yeah try to one on one him. I tried the same. It didnt happen. I got suspended once for knocking my pen off my desk. This guy was a jerk... We once had a full class detention for doing something dumb. This is school, not a freaking desk job. Tell him whats up.

"Well if we all dropped our pens or books at the same time, he would write us all up no quesitons asked."

If everyone gets written up, have the whole class do it. After you all get written up, do it again. And again. And again. Sooner or later someone in the office going to want to know whats up, so tell them.
Or, just go to your counciler. Have everyone go to your counciler, and have a talk with them. Go to your principal. If all fails, get you parents involved. Parent's voice in school is bigger than most of the staff, usually.
So if just ONE angry mom calls in and goes off on th teacher or the head staff, I'm almost willing to bet my 200x he'll straighten right up.

I had something like that happen before, so I just dropped the class and took something else.

Thats what I thought. If I were getting paid to go there, like with a job, I probably wouldn't say something behind a co-workers back. But school is something I have to do.. no choice.
I think that it is dumb that he punishes the whole class for one person saying "Mr. Ewings stupid class". He didn't say Mr. Ewing was stupid.. he just said he didn't like the class... and not everyone likes biology. Its called an opinion.. the whole class doesn't have the same opinion. Well they didn't.. now I think they all hate biology.. even the ones that used to love it.

When you set foot on school property, you have no rights at all. No free speech, and no freedom to express yourself in any way. We had a huge ordeal over the confederate flag in my Senior year. Several of us got suspended for starting petitions, wearing the shirts when we've been told to take it off, ect...

Take this issue to the principal, counselor's, or school board. It sounds like its the only way to get through to the guy. Either that, or boycott his class for a week or so (I did that once...and it worked too)

How hard is it to just do what he tells you to do? Guess what life is not always fair.

This is what the whole thing would sound like

" our teacher he gives us homework and makes us study"

" yes son that would be what it says to do in his job discription"

" really"

" Yes now go study and stop crying like a *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited*"

"ok"

Not to change the subject or to make anyone look bad. But the moral to this thread is simple. It goes to show that 1 persons action / words can ruin it for everyone else.

This goes the same for ATV's and such. This is one more reason why we are loosing so much riding area and we are facing more rules & regulations.

Back on the subject: I am also willing to bet this same kid has taken heat from other students for what he did / said. The kid that made the comment should go and talk to the teacher and try to work things out.

He definately took heat from everyone in our class, but he did do the right thing and went to talk to Mr. Ewing about it. Mr. Ewing more or less told him that he didn't want his appology..

It gets extremely frustrating when you try to talk to the teacher, but he doesnt want to hear any of it. So, you have to get through to him someway else. You guys should just have your parents call this guy and have a little chat. If he still doesnt care, time for a nice talk with the principle.

$#%# that frickin homo. glue up his chair when he isnt there, get black ink and spill it on papers on his desk, do all the crazy insane childish things you can do well you still can, because once your out of school you cant. thats the only REAL way to get back at him. it might cost you detentions, etc... but this is school. as long as your grades are good, they cant fail you for the way you act, most they can do is ship you to another school. i used to not take *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* from teachers. i would listen to what im taught, but wanted mutual respect. they have a ego, its almost like, since they are OBVIOUSLY to them, more knowledgeable, they are better then you. thats the way they always acted, in high school. and most especially, since your younger. remember that. they look at all of you like you are nothing but worms. well, fight fire with fire. if your a immature child, what do children do to get back at them? play games. thats right. obviously try not to get caught. glue her books pages togather, super glue her seat, get some dog crap and put it in her desk drawer, whatever it may be. :naughty:

lol i like it. we had a mean teacher in school that had a scooter and she always fell a sleep during study hall. (yes a teacher sleeping in school.) but anyway we tied her scooter to her desk lol. then we made tons of noice to wake her up and ran out the door. then she would try to catch us but that failed due to a 250 pound desked tied to the back of her scooter. lol or we used to undo the battery. i miss them good ole days. all i can tell you man is if all fails make his life a living hell. play games he has never seen before.

Give him a taste of his own medicine man. That's how we handled teachers like that... "Oh, so you want to play that way huh? Well, alright then..." The key to shutting him down is having ATLEAST two thirds of the class in on whatever you do... Be persistant but like someone said earilier, maintain your grades or 'they' will use it against you.

I dont know how many kids are in your class....But get them all together and Congregate outside the Door....When the Bell rings....Dont go into the Class...Just stand or sit outside the door....He will either have to teach outside or get the principal....Call it an Intervention...If he is in fact a "LITTLE RICHARD" the Principal will now know it:naughty:
