Well she finally died. We have had this 250 trail boss for years and is almost like part of the family. Saturday my kids wanted to ride so we started down the trail to the sand pit. I made it about 500 feet and it acted like it was running out of gas. I tried for some time to get her going but she wouldn’t fire. We left it there and I rode the rest of the way on the back of my daughters moto 4 80.(we dragged it home with this great little quad) so they could ride for a hour or two. After we dragged it home and I proceeded to figure out what happened to it. I cleaned the carb changed the plug and checked for spark. It still had lots of compression. Still it would not start. Put my hand over the carb and it would fire. This had me stumped for a few min, until I removed the carb and felt the piston through the intake. The skirt was broken.
I removed the top end and the skirt was in lots of little pieces in the block. I figured that I would remove the motor to make it easier to flush out the motor and I broke the clutch trying to take it off. At that point in the day I just gave up and walked away.
I guess it might be cheaper to locate a used motor and clutch for it. Does anyone has one ?
