O.k., so a cupel days ago the starter went I took it apart and found it was all scored up(ate a washer/spacer) so I got a new(used) one at my shops junkyard off a 250ES for $30, workd fine in the ES, I bring it home and install it in my SX and and hit the starter, it turns over really slow, so I charged the battery, same thing, I took of the cover that the starter gears go under(which I did before when I first took the bad starter out) and I losend the bolts, hit the starter and it cranked fine, so I tightend the bolts down, back to cranking slowly, I was wondering if when I took the cover off the first time because I removed the old gasket and just permetex'd it that it needs the gasket there for a shim??? Maybe to keep things from binding?? Thanks for any info.

it sounds to me like you have just answered your own question. it makes sense to me. try cutting a piece of cardboard the same shape and see if that shifts it out out as far as the old gasket. that might give you an idea what is going on. if it works, get a new gasket

Another problem could be the starter gears. They used at least 2 different gears up top. I ran into this problem about 6 months ago. If you still have your old parts compare them side by side.

Hope it helps.

I had a similar problem with my starter reduction gears just recently: http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=5918 I can't really tell you what we did though because my friend fixed it while I was doing other stuff, but my top starter gear was missing a tooth. I wish I had a working starter, none of the SXs in Halifax have working starters lol.

I fixed it this morning, just permetexed the old gasket back in and it works fine, thanks for the help though, it really had me for an hour or so.
