picked up an 86 tri-z this weekend, veryu good condition for 500 bucks:w00t: was told by the seller it has week spark, sure enough got it home checked spark and it is very week.I had this happen on my 1st banshee years ago(rip)and cant remember what the fix was,i t looks like it has a new coil,so thats out of the equation, where do i go next?stator?ignition box?all the wiring looks good in factory condition so i beleive i can eliminate that as well, thanks in advance

start with the stator
pulse coil-pick up coil white&red--black wires should be 10.7 ohms+10%
source coil brown--black should be 315 ohms+10%

coil test--resistance should be 0.79ohms + 15%
check for a good ground!

you cannot test the cdi you have to test every thing else to eliminate the problem some people say you can but there full of bull..

Try the cheap things first, clean the coil and CDI grounds, and replace the plug boot. If its not that then its more then likely the stator that needs replacing in my experience.

yes it is the same! make shure that its threded in as far as it will go, clean the threds up nice and spray a little lube on them, last thing you want to do is mess up the threds!
