I was pulling the flywheel off a 350x with a 2 arm gear puller, like I have on other ATCs. The center bolt of the puller stipped out the begining threads on the crank. I need to know if I can just use a helicoil on it, & what thread size is it. If I can use a helicoil do I have take the crank out of the case?
I hate when I do dumb stuff.

find the type of thread and use a chaser to clean them up,or are they wasted?

No just the beginning of the threads is messed up. By chaser do you mean just use a tap to go down the threads to clean them up? How do I make sure I get it started right? I have taped threads, but not chased them. I appericate your help.

A chaser ? Just use a die on the crank to clean up the threads, make sure it is right thread, metric and fine or coase thread and you should be all right.

You can get the right tap from your honda dealer if you dont have it for a decent price. Some of the ATC's like the 250sx requir special taps and dies.

Just tell them I need a die for the crank on the left side? Is it's not special then I should have one. If I haven't lost it. I have lost a lot of taps.

If your starting thread is gone it might be hard to get a die to take a path that lines up with the good threads left . It might be best to use a thread file it will correct the end and not damage any other theads. I have a Snap-on not sure who else makes 'em. Link to pics; of said file http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/tools.asp?tool=all&Group_ID=1149&store=snapon-store

Right on that is what i was worried about. How to make sure I got it started right. How do those files work? I don't suppose you know which one I need do you. I have the bolt so I know I can measure the threads on it, but I am still not sure which file to get. Thanks for the help.
