a small amount of play in the shaft is normal. as for the kickback check the decompression cable while moving the kicker to see if its functioning. the occasional kickback is normal. hurts like hell. helps if you kick the first 1/4 of the kick slow.

i put a new stator and case on it and that is when it started doing that. when it started up it missed lioke crazy. then after about an hour of looking at it i realized a couple of the wires were on wrong. i switched them maround and it runs fine and does not f up my leg anymore. as for the shaft every time i pop out my clutch my chain pops off on the front sprocket. what should i do?

if it has that much play in the counter shaft something is wrong.what does it do if you let out the clutch easy?is you chain tightned properly?

sound like maybe a clip,or something has let loose inside allowing the shaft to move that much.never heard of such a thing.

the chain is tight and it will go when i go easy on it but when i let er eat it pops off every time. the shaft just started moving about a week ago. i had sombody put a new one about 3 moths ago. ran fine then. what is inside to make it move like that. i have all the parts if i need to replace it also. i have a whiole other motor stripped down . so let me know.

theres a circle clip on the counter shaft that holds all the gears in place. it prolly wasnt clipped in all the way. or some one left out a washer somewhere. pull up the diagram on servicehonda.com/hard%20parts/hard_parts.htm

Look at the rear carrier and axle too. The chain tension has to be right when the rear wheels are off the ground, and when the rear frame is squashed down too. Have someone else (or two someone elses) sit on the seat and see if the chain is loose then. Hitting teh gas hard makes the rear end squat down and that might be when it comes loose.
