Stripped Screw Head

[200X Racer]

Well I am re building my 200X and disassembling the head. I got everything down to the phillips head screw that holds the plate, which holds the rockers in place. Well you guessed it, being a phillips head screw and alot of torq I managed to round out the head on the screw. What can I do. I am temped to just leave it together and re oil it, but i really would like to get the rockers out.
Any Suggestions? :confused:

can you get a pair of vise grips on it? that always works for me.

No, thats what sucks, the screw is countersunk.

You'll need an impact driver, that should work to get it out.

I bought one for $9.99, best tool I have. If you own a yamaha, this tool is a must, because of all the phillips bolts on the case covers.

I use one of those manual Impact screwdrivers for situations like this.
(looks kinda like a fat screwdriver that you hit with a hammer)

I got to thinking, and there is no way that could work, I think the head is already striped to badly.

Sears sell this bit type set that may catch it as it drills.. its for stripped out heads..I have used it with success.. just head into the store and start looking,. the set is cheap enough, like $20 for 3 different size bits

Can you possibly super glue or epoxy the screwdriver into the screw and push down hard while turning and maybe get it out? I did that with my R in a few places with success.

very simple ,, just drill the head off and take it apart,,, then get the rest out with vise grips,,,,

You need a drill bit with reversed threads, I bought a set a harbor freight tools for under $10. Its a ordinary bit but the threads go the other way, put it on start drilling and the screw will come out with ease. Saved my ass on many occasions.

the impact driver i bought was by far the best tool ive ever bought. just like yamahauler said, they are a must for a yamaha. the impact driver should get it out.

EZ outs are a guys best freind for these situations. they also sell some kind of exopy stuff that you put on the head of the screw and it hardens around the tip of the driver. Never used this stuff myself but I was told it works and is a cheaper alternative.
