Alright. I am getting a bran-spankin new Recon! What I need to know is possible mods, if any. I wanna give it a little extra punch. nothing too special, but still be above norm. All reconmendations are apreciated. (nothing like a brand new machien):beer

when i was younger i was in love with the recon. I never got one but loved it anyways.
Are they still the basic 250cc utility quad? There may not be much to do to them to hop it up, and maybe a 250ex for the same price would give you the extra punch youre looking for
good luck either way and i hope to one day own a brand new machine from day one, not get a used one and have to fix everything that wasnt done right the first time

Do a Dynojet Jet kit, open air box and UNI filter, and get a slip on or full exhaust system ( I think FMF still makes a full system for the Recon) check denniskirk.com for all the parts I mentioned. It will wake up that little quad quite a bit. Good luck and post some :pics: :pics: :pics:

I have a 1998 RECON and that thing is bullet proof. I've put on a 250ex big gun race pipe but had to cut 2 inches from where it connects to the head pipe and weld it back together. Big Gun clames a solid 2 horsepower at the wheels with just the exhaust. Stock header, K&N filter with outerwear, jetted from 95stock to 100. This is not the same bike I bought. It responds better, slightly higher top end, and just pulls better through every gear. Coming over a hill, I can stand it up in 4th gear. I've even taken it to the dunes once without paddles, and was jumping razorbacks getting 5-6 feet off the ground (no joke) and the suspension held up just fine. A recon will not let you down unless your racing 400's to 450's.

Oh yeah, don't get a dynojet kit. Those'll run ya about 50 bucks, when you can just get 2-3 main jet sizes up for 4.95 a piece, and check your spark plug everytime you ride.

I personally would not order the parts from denniskirk, unless you like paying retail for evertyhing. Check ebay and find some honda forums where people are selling parts. Or use rockymountainatv. Recons are a honda, so they are reliable. I have ridden a few in my life and they are fun to toy around on and are overall great quads.
