I'm also needing a history lesson or two on these things. Like what was the first year, diffrent models, colors and aftermarket parts available or any other info you guys can supply. Oh, any week spots or things to watch out for? Please state your year and model as well. :)

1985 chasis with an '86 motor I believe. Has a Dg exhaust complimented by a 10:1 comp piston and a 250sx carb, throttle, and a 350x throttle cable for the needed length.
My dad has an '86 230 QS he bought brand new in '86 and still runs it to this day. Original everything (cept tires, and no I'm not forgetting the filter thats original too) and he runs whatever oil he can find in it. I believe he is running 15w-30 diesel oil in it and some how some way it hasnt blown up or gone through clutches. I'll get pics of this beast tuesday I hope

Cobra and DG make aftermarket pipes for it currently, they were made starting in 1985, the 85 and 86 models are the same partswise, but i htink the 87 and up had electric start. Weaknesses are mainly the chain problems, it likes to throw them alot, so invest in a case saver, you wont regrett it. Ill get a pic or two of mine for you. any more ?'s just ask.

I had mine out tonight and noticed the headlight dims and flickers... That and the hi beam doesnt work at all. :wondering Other than that it runs real good. Mine is an 87 Has electric start with a back up pull starter.
Nate, I noticed your front nose piece is diffrent... Is that fron a quadracer? are any of those parts interchangable with these machines?

05-19-2006, 11:49 AM
85-88 are pretty much the same machine, if not identicle
85 had orange plastic and a black nosepiece and seat
86 had lighter orange plastic and a blue seat and nose
87-88 had white plastic, blue seat and nose , and a wierd little handlebar mounted fairing deal that surrounded the headlight
89 and 90 were 250CC versions with pretty much just a slightly larger bore and all new blue and white bodywork that looked a little like a 250X. Not sure how much the shassis differes from the older 230 model
they are not very fast and not very durable....that is why they are kinda rare. The chains pop off and bust the motor cases every 15 minutes....
they are fun and wheelie nice if you can find a decent one

nope thats pure quadsport right there. If your quadrunner has a nose piece I'm sure they will interchange.
My dad and I must be the lucky ones when it comes to chains popping off apparently . I have only thrown th chain once and thats because the swingarm bearings were bad so the rear sproket kept moving around and my dad has NEVER, and by NEVER I mean that his chain hasnt come off once, had his chain pop off his quadsport in 20 years. Replaced the original chain last year as a matter of fact. And in no way, shape or form am I exagerating. If you maintain them, they will last.

Yea, I haven't had much trouble with the chain on mine either,,, but I havent had it that long or been beating on it that much anyways? I got a brand new chain that came with the bike as well. Did some models have the shaft drive?
Hey Rhuel,, do you know what year they went from the 230 or 250 to the 400? that thing is sweet wanna trade? :naughty:

According to kbb.com 1989 was the first year for the Quadsport 250 LT250S.
And I know the first Z400 like mine was in 2003.
I'm just going by www.kbb.com They have a selector for years/makes/models. You can go through the list year by year. I'd think they are a credible source.
Ah...no trades at this point. I need $$$.

Yea, I was joking about the trade but I figured it was worth a shot. ;)
Just a few more pics of mine cause well,,, I'm bored. :(

I was just sittin here wondering what diffrent color plastics are available. I'm not to crazy bout the orange but they aren't really in that bad of shape yet. Anyone got any more pics of the quadrunner or quadsport? :naughty:
Another thing I like about this is the rear tires. Man they get excellent bite but still slide pretty good. I think it's time to loose the woolies on the SX and get me a set of these for the trike.

heres the beater i had last year. its the only picture i have so don't ask for more! its a 85 lt230s quadsport.
there isn't many parts from the quadracer 250 and 500 that interchange. the parts i can think of off the top of my head are the front seat latch hook, 85-86 lt250r and lt230 have the same bearing carriers, front calipers, rear calipers(but the mounting bracket is different), front rims, rear rims only from the 85-86 250 quadracer.
the only early suzuki quad that had a drive shaft was the quadrunner. none of the quadsports had a shaft, hence the name sport!!
oh and that hood looks different because its a maier aftermarket hood, the stock quadsport hood looks like the one on yours, chris.

Thanks for the info Shawn. ;) I'm still kinda confused as to what model I have. I was told it's an 87 quadrunner on the other post I have on here (someone looked up the vin #'s) But the title says 87 suzuki quadsport!? See I gotta buy some oil filters soon and I'm not sure which ones to order. there must be 10 diffrent models to these things. lol

chris which vin number did you post up, the engine or frame? It may be an '87 quadsport frame with a quadrunner engine. Kinda like an auto x.
chris200x
05-19-2006, 10:33 PM
I posted the vin that was on the title. I'll go look at the one on the frame and see if there is one on the motor in the morning and see if they match up.

You don't have a true quadsport. Sports have kick starters. You remember when Kawasaki came out with the Lakota, it was a Mojave with racks and auto trans. Yours has auto trans right? Thats what your bike is. I don't know the actual nomenclature, but it couldn't be too hard to find.

I got a bone stock 86 with blue seat white plastics and black nose piece. Really clean, I got it from the original owner who parked it in 96 because it scared him:crazy: I dont think he was all there!! It still even has the plastic cowling around the headlight

Hey Steve that's pretty nice. Is that mostly original?
So I went out and looked at the vin # and it seems everything pretty much matches up. But I'm still kinda confused as to why if it's a quadrunner it doesn't have the shaft drive. no biggie really I guess I would just rather the shaft over the chain I suppose.
Yours has auto trans right?
Yes I believe it does.
Anyone else got anymore pics of their 230's?

i read that the rear axles out of the 85-86 quadracer 250's will fit in the 230 carrier, and they have the same hub splines, and its 3 inches wider than stock, so thats another good thing, and also from the looks of it the quadracer 250 and the quadsport have the same front ends/ bumper mounts so i think the aftermarket bumpers will fit aswell.

i don't know how wheeliepop did it, but my 86lt250r has the same thing on the thumb trottle(the quadsports use the same thumb throttles as the 85-86 quadracers.) i just used a on/off, light switch from a 87-92 lt250r. its all built into one, you just have to wire it up correctly.
and those front bumbers do look the same as the 250 quadracers, or very close. someone would have to measure the distance between the 2 front frame rails to be sure.

Here is some pics of our 230s I just bought the stock one but I can't seem to get spark to see if it runs ok. The other one is the one that we put a 86 200x in it. We have another one that has had the zillar motor in it but I took it down to the frame for beefing up and to try and fit a zilla swing arm into it. (kept tearing the swing arm) LOL
