They are very cool buggies! I don't think I'd call them quads though.

I think you'll be disapointed as well as not many people own them. Maybe two or three on the boards here

Just imagine how much a current day PILOT would cost us to enjoy that thrill again. Shame they stopped making them.I would love to see some new technology on one with todays Designs. AWESOME pilot pics!!

why are those things so rare!!! I can find 250's and 350's around here relitivly easy, but never a pilot!!! :( If they are so awsome why were they only made 2 years????? They seam like they would be wicked safe with a roll cage....

I have no clue why they only built them 2 years I would guess low sales. I bet they would sale now but I'm sure they are not willing to take that finacial risk again.

Usually when you see them at the dunes they are higly modded and super fast. Lots of them have a500cc conversion and also long travel suspension.

I love my '89 Pilot. Safest ATV out there and hella fun. Mine has been moded by the master(Hoser) w/ the addition of a ATVR high rev pipe and FMF cr500Q silencer, a powerbloc clutch, 39mm pwk carb and airbox mod.

First two pics are of LS first is 4 years ago and the second is last year. Other four pics are in my driveway. Posted them so folks could get a good look at all side. Check out www.pilotodessey.com sometime form all the Pilot/ody info you could need.

If you want to see some sick new single seat kart check this site out www.drakart.com

P.S. Nice Pilots guys. I'm wiggins over on the PO boards

Honda only built them for 2 years because they never sold ....the original selling price was $6,000 which back in 89/90 was alot of cash..... the head of Honda now (can't rember his name) said if used pilots ever got to $10,000 honda would look at making something simular again ....well mint pilots go for $10k now on ebay so come on honda lets have have a new one:D :D :D :D :D :D here another pic of me flyin

Pete your the man on that Pilot mate !
As Pete mentioned that sort of $ back in the late 80's was a lot and unfortunatly the Pilot was a poor seller with brand new machines still on the showroom floor in 1993.The US TV commercial for the Pilot is a parity on the Top Gun movie with the Pilots engaged in a "dog fight" on the dunes, its pretty cheesy but fun to watch.Of all the ATV's ive owned over the years its been the most fun,i have imported 4 to Australia over the last 18 months.

Aussie

PS
Nice Pilot Wiggins,i like your dual pre-filter system im going to do something similar for next summer im currently using 2 stock upper intakes.

There are still companies that make single seat buggies and most of them are modled after the pilot

http://www.drakart.com/

there is another one called the edge in australia but cant find the website

Thanks Aussie,

That is an original Litespeed design that we modded. Mainly just a piece of sheet aluminum, a shop-vac hose set and some conduit connectors. If I remember the most expensive thing was the big buggy filter at the intake. I think it was $50-$70 *Edited*.S.

I was thinking about putting a CR500 engine in an oddysey 350........ Anyone think it's possible???? That puppy would really haul!!!! I'd have to make a way to shift though, the oddyseys and pilot were belt drives right? No gears..... I could figure something out.....

Trike Dude
05-30-2006, 08:20 PM
They sure are belt drive w/ centrifugal clutch. Your best bet would be to use an ole snowmobile motor as they use the same type of clutch.

There are several guys w/ moded Pilots(Hosers runs a 440 twin cylinder rotax 2 stroke in his) and odys.

For modded Ody's sign up on the message board and check out what Nuke'Em does. Several of the guys you would want to talk to are on the Big West summer ride and wont be back for a few weeks.

thats awesome trike dude. how much different is the oddysee 250/350 to the pilot?

Almost everything is different between the Fl250's/Fl350's and the Pilot. Suspension is different. Liquid cooled 400cc two stroke in the Pilot vs. aircooled 250/350cc engines in the Ody's......

Go check out the website. Alll the answers and more usually w/ pics are there

i think they would defiently sell now if they where made again.

The only problem with one of these is that they are too wide to use on an atv trail. I believe that they have to be under 50 inches. Guess that it depends on how leaniant the DNR are. But a single seat buggie in the dunes would be great.
