85 250r water pump, 2 questions

1.What is the impeller made of? Rubber?
2.How can you test to see if it is circulating?
Start it cold with radiator cap off and see if it circulates?

the impellor is steel or aluminum it's been awhile i forget exactly which.

i'm not sure about the second question.

No problems. I want to make sure it is circulating when I assemble the top end and break in.

250R's are not known to have impeller problems. Tri-Z's are plastic and can cause problems.

Yes, take the cap off the radiator, start it and look inside. Youll see flow increase as you rev it. Flow problems are rare on a 250r as the impeller is steel.
