XL is more of the onroad version Xr is offroad, they are older but still very good offroad bikes and an XR will never die, you can run a xr without oil and it would still start up(ok so dont actually but they are pretty much bulletproof.)

yeah I have a 1985 XL350. Its my dads bike and I run the piss out of it, and its never failed. I checked the oil in it once and ended up adding close to a litre.

I"ve got 3 TT500's, 4 XL500's and an XR500. What do you need to know. I'm pretty familiar with all of them. Here's the break down. 76 TT500 with title, a 78 XT500, 79 TT500. A 1979 XL500, this one is not RFVC and has dual rear shocks. I have 3 1982 XL500R's. This is a one year bike. The only year the XL was a 500 with mono shock. I have the title for one and had license on it for a year until I bought my Harley. I also have a near mint 1984 XR500R with title. This one is the only of my 500's that are RFVC, also the last year for an XR500. All of these bikes are just awesome and I'm always looking for more.
