Got all my parts. Gotta drive 60 miles round trip to get my dowel pins tomorrow because I want my 250R together this weekend dammit!
Got reeds and cage installed in cylinder.
I was prepping exhaust flange and noticed that there was 1/4 inch carbon accumulation around the whole inside of flange! I would say 30% restriction.
Looked in pipe and was clean because it is a replacement pipe. (but going to give it a pressure was enema tomorrow for good measures)
The carbon was so hard, I could not chip it off with a screwdriver.
I put a wire brush on die grinder and no luck trying to remove the baked on carbon.
I then put on a stone on die grinder and had to grind carbon all the way down until I skiffed the metal.
Probably will make a big difference in flow now.

Mine needs that done too, and a new o-ring/gasket where the pipe boots up. Did you replace those? What size are they?

It is a stock flange so there is no o-rings. It leaks a little oil and I need to get one of the o-ring type flanges.

I'll bet he meant the metal ring that goes around the outside of the exhaust flange then you slide the pipe over it. Just replace that and use some of the high temp copper sealer and you should have no problems w/ leaks or splooge anymore. If you notice it is still doing it you'll need to take it off and reseal it again.

Carbon is a byproduct of burning fuel, and the burning gasoline leaves almost none. I know you dont want to hear this, but your choice of oil, and teh amount of it you mix is the greatest contributor to the amount of carbon buildup you get.

crackshot, I'll hijack your thread. I took mine off today, and pulled a good dumass mistake. I put the flange in a vise (gently) just to hold it while I sanded and cleaned on it. Well, I broke the ring in half. The flange where the ring seats is 49mm. What/how/where do I replace this with. Any luck O'Reilly's or something would have rings that small?
Thanks,
Travis

Well, mine HAD a ring. LOL till I broke it. I painted my Fatty pipe black, and put the two 1/2's of the ring back on the flange and high temp silicone, and I think I got it sealed off good. I just bought a used silencer off ebay ( hope it fits?!), and we'll see how good it sealed off.
At the dealor did you just ask for an exhaust flange ring? or 49mm ring?
Did you get everything back together?

Yeah I asked for an exhaust flange ring. He knew what I was after.
Yeah I have it back together. Still have a little seepage. I am going to reseal it tonight so I can ride this weekend.

I need to get one of the aftermarket with the dual o-rings. I hate gooping the silicone on there to try to get it sealed, hehe.

Yeah, I had trouble sucking it up and paying the $50 also, but now that I did, I'm very happy. It fits like a glove. It's not loose like the OEM fit.

Next time I have to take mine off, I'll replace it with a new one. I fired mine up last night and held a lighter around the flange, no leaks, not even a hint, so I feel better bout that. Now, I'm just waiting for the Trinity silencer I got off ebay. Hope it fits up well to the Fatty pipe.

I dont see why it would not fit. I put a Cobra on mine and fit like a glove!
Got the Cobra one off ebay myself.

Looks good. That's a FMF Fatty pipe? I hope this silencer is in good shape, got it for $25. The Powercore has been cut off, and I wanna full length silencer. Bike looks good.
