I cant figure this one out. Ever since I have had this 86 R it has had problems with the clutch. I noticed the clutch cable was installed incorrectly and when I fixed it, I had no clutch, you put it back and it works (pictured below is the way its installed). I thought that maybe the clutch lifter was worn or maybe the pushrod was somehow damaged so I got another lifter and it turns out the old ones just as good as the new one. Next I think I wound up with a pushrod for maybe an 88 TRX because its shorter than the one that came out of my engine. The problem is it doesnt seem to disengage the clutch (it trys to keep going) when you pull the handle in. There was also a washer placed inbetween the pressure plate and lifter to make it work. What the hell? Anyway, anyone have any ideas? My brain is smoked on this one? I was thinking maybe the clutch arm somehow??

Sounds like it has the wrong cable on it. Are you sure someone didnt replace the cable and didnt catch that it was the wrong length?

Thats a new cable that I put on it, it matched the old cable and it was for a 250r.

does the trike have stock handle bars? if not the hight of the new ones could have messed with the length. i know it did for me when i put new ones on and they where a little higher so when i turned it pulled the clutch in by itself.

They are lower than stock. I called up an old racer and he told me just update to the 89 system. He said sometimes the Hinson PRessure plates can cause some of the problem I am having. The clutch push rod becomes to short.

check bike bandit -you can use there microfice and put it together as factory
if your basket is wore out ,there will be grooves where the fiber plates slide in the basket (this will keep the plates from seperating, and allowing the clutch to work propperly!!!!)
sounds like the problem you are having
quick fix--file the groovs down evenly, like new again ,yes this works i have done this many times on diff baskets
don't go too far
this will work like new, until you can get a new basket
i haven't had any problems in doing this!!!
they are called (chatter marks)
good luck----(trail tech tip)

Both of my 250R's are the same as yours now. One is an 85 with a stock basket, new cable, 1985 clutch etc. One is my 86 racer which has all the goodies, 89 upgrade kit, new cable, billet basket, CR500 springs, new plates (last year) and fibers etc. In addition, both have new pivot shafts in them. Both have both bolts on the left side of the bracket. I have never questioned it. I personally wouldn't worry about it, but the washer between the pressure plate and the push rod is different.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.....
