Hi all,
I dont know if everyone read my other posts about the yard sale find but this is the same wheeler.
I finally thought I was ready to take her for a ride but ran into a problem?
I replaced the coil/condensor with a aftermarket one that the bike mechanic said would work fine and I havnt replaced the points yet but did clean them and they didnt look pitted and were gapped right so I left them in place.
When I first crank it up it seems OK until I try to ride,it seems like its misfireing and sputtering when I rev it up any?
If I shift early it runs ok until I try to go faster then the misfire starts,As it warms up it seems to run worse and gets harder to restart?
Any ideas?
On a good note,it does shift smooth so I have that going in my favor lol!
Thanks for any advice you guys can offer!!!!

It sounds like your a little out of time, you may have to adjust the "points plate" to set your timing advance +/- a few degrees

I tried playing with the timing some today with the same results?
I have a constent spark but I can hear it smooth out then miss ect..but I seem to have excessive spark at the points.
My spark plug gets sooty and I clean it and it runs better until it gets sooty again?
It seems to not be fireing at the right time possibly,I tried to adjust the dwell and marked where it was set at and adjusted it some and again the same results so I put it back where it was?
If this makes any sense the muffler pitch changes also when it gets warmed up?
I wish I had some $$,I would take it to someone but Im on disability and dont get much so I try to do what I can myself.
Could it be my carb?
It's really cold natured and tends to flood easy,I took the bowl off and cleaned everything with carb cleaner and it all looked ok so i put it all back together.
I really would appriciate any help you guys can offer,I cant seem to figure it out myself and before I spend any more money guessing at what it could be I want to get your input,
Thanks,
Russell

I went out last night and took the carb completly apart and cleaned eveything out with carb cleaner real good just to be sure that it was clean.
It did run a bit better and cranks right up now but still is missing so I rechecked my valves and did a compression check 110+ psi so thats all good.
I am just going to get a new set of points I guess, they dont look real bad but are pitted a little bit with a slope instead of a flat contact and white/gray in color?
I have read every post in the fourms here about misfire ect.. and I have tried all the advice that was given lol, this has got to be the reason it's misfireing!!??**
Wish me luck guy's,I'll post the results when I get it done.

Hi ya russell, how exatctly are you setting the initial timing?
I know first you must set the gap on the points but i wouldent know what the specs. would be. On my TT 500 the gap is0.35mm or 0.014 in.
After that you would have to alighn the "F" mark on the flywheel at top dead center compression connect an ohm meter (I use the audible beep on my meter for continuity checks) you could probably use a short finder light too, after you connect meter to points loosen base plate screws and slowly turn the base plate
untill the points begin to open(the buzzer on meter turns off or if using a short finder the light will go out)the ignition timing would then be set.
Now you would have to connect a timing light ,fire the bike up ,and check to see if the "F" mark lines up at idle ,If it does then roll the throttle a little bit and see if the advance mark lines up,If the advance mark does not line up, with the bike running turn the baseplate untill it does and your done.
Hope this helps

Thanks Digger Dog for the help!!!
I did the best with the meters ect.. I have and still got the same results even though it all seemed to be right so I called the guy I met with the ATV junk yard and asked if he had any points for the wheeler and he said he was going to be in my neck of the woods tomorrow and would stop by and check it out for me!!!!!!!!!
What a nice guy!!
I couldnt belive it but like the saying goes(Minnesota Nice)lol.
I will get the chance to show him the F150 4x4 I have that I was wanting to ask if he would trade for the amphibious 6 wheeler he has and a ATC 200???????????
Got my fingers crossed!!!
He wanted $900.00 for the 6 wheeler and $400.00 fo the ATC so that is about what the trucks worth?
Geeze,I have a mini school bus thats a camper too,HHMMM,wonder what he would trade for it lol???

Finally,I have a working 3 wheeler!!!!!!!!
The guy that was suspossed to stop by didnt(I have good luck that way)??? so I started trying to figure it out again and went through everything in the ignition AGAIN lol.
I had good spark and compression it seemed and so I started looking around this site and the web (found this site by the way) www.bbrmotorsports.com/Jetting'.htm and it got me to thinking about the carb ect.. so I searched the fourms here for Pilot jet problems and went back to work on her.
I took the carb off again and layed it out on a clean table and got a wire off my wire brush and just poked all the holes with the wire and sprayed it all out with carb cleaner and put it back on and it worked!!!!!!
It sputtered a couple of times when I first took off on it but it blew out what ever trash was still in there and man is it nice now!!!
Im amazed about how fast it is too,I swear it's faster than the ATC 200's I've ridden?
I have a rear brake question for anyone that might know, are these bikes known for the brake peddle spring getting weak?
It wont stay up like it should but my brakes are OK?
Thanks again to everyone who replyed to my posts and to the site owners themselves!!!!
I wouldnt have it going if it wasnt for all the help and the past topic's and replys in the fourm's!!!!!
When I get someone to take a pic I will post some action shots,it's nice to be one of the actual riders now LOL,
