If anyone has a factory Honda service manual for a 1986 ATC250R, I was hoping you could check something for me. I have a Clymer manual for the bike, but I can't find what I need in that one.
I'm hoping you can tell what weight fork springs (in # or Kg.) come in the stock forks. I'm putting inverted forks on my 250R and I need to put stiffer springs in the forks because they came from a KTM 85SX, so they're a little bit soft, and I want to get somewhere near the original forks spring tension. Any help with this info would be much appreciated.

If you have a chance to look when you get home, I'd appreciate it.

it doesn't say the weight of the springs, but it says 22.65-23.10 and a service limit of 22.42

Thanks Deathman. My Clymer manual had those free length service limits in them as well. Maybe there's just nothing published on the spring tension. There's got to be some way to test the springs. So much force to compress them so far dictates their tension. I guess I'll search the internet for some spring info.

I'm not positive here Red, but I think knowing the spring/wire diameter and how many coils per inch would help in your search.

42 kg springs stock I think in an 86 250R. Not 100% sorry.

Some where on here, there is a link to a site which has these. You can down load these and print out..

My manual only shows free length specs, and the fact that there were one piece, and 2 piece springs. No spring tension specs, and I have a manual from 1993 for my 250R. I'm sure the newer manuals are just the same, but sometimes they change em a little bit. you could probably dump the oil, remove the Schrader valve from the top cap, and compress the fork on a scale and get a decent idea of spring pressure at different compression lengths. Just an idea if all else fails.

Thanks for the responses, PM's, & suggestions everybody. I guess the info that I'm looking for cannot be found in the Honda service manual. I'll have to use alternate methods to determine the spring rate in the stock forks.
