What do I have here?

Way back when I bought my project ATC90, someone told me it was a '72 or '73. From the specs page here it looks like a '70 or '71? Is there any way to tell for sure? My VIN is US90-207588.

My real problem at the moment is getting my replacement seat to work. I just got around to taking the old one apart today. The issue is that I'm not sure that the fender/seat combo is the right one fo the trike, and I may have bought the wrong foam and cover. Can someone take a look at it and tell me what year this fender is?

I asked because the replacement seat didn't seem to fit quite right. Worse, there's metal brackets inside the old seat that disintigrated when I took it apart. Is there anywhere to buy those? If not, what have others done to make this work? I can probably fabricate the side ones, but the back one is molded in the shape of the seat and I don't know if I can do that.

Your ATC90 is a 1973 model by the vin number but I think your fender is a 1974 model. Is the fender made of fiberglass or plastic?

It's fiberglass. What years did they use fiberglass?

250SX, I think you were looking at the engine number. I was giving the frame number. My engine number was 110xxx (it had a broken case and was replaced) so I still think engine and frame may have been a K0.

Clearly my machine is made of mixed parts, because it has a metal front fender, knobby tires, and a '78 fuel tank. I'm trying to figure out what year the rear fender is so I can properly replace the seat. The foam I got is for a K0 and it just doesn't seem to "fit the mold".

I'm also looking for ideas about the rusted-out metal brackets found inside the seat cover that hold the seat onto the fender. Does anyone have ideas about those?

They didnt use fiberglass till 76 i think.....that would be why it dosnt fit, completly diffrent seat....

According to allterraincycles.ca they used front steel and rear fiberglass in 70-71. After that it doesn't specify if fiberglass was used.

they used 'glass for the rears from 69-70 till 78 I believe. 79 went to plactics and a 110 motor ,the mounts for the seat changed a little bit in 74 / 75 if i'm not mistaken, after the "Indian feather" tank when they started to put Honda on the fuel tank. They also changed to mud flaps and the rear of the fenders for structure. Front fenders changed from aluminum to plastic in 74 / 75 colors changed in 73 from the 4 "intense" colors to autumn orange in 74 then Honda passion red 75 to 78 at the end of the run for 90's.


But I could be corrected on any of the above points

I scoured those two sites you guys gave me. They were informative, but strangely the decal on that rear fender (see the pic link in my first post) didn't show up in any of the years. It had to fall in there somewhere. I'm thinking that if I can identify the decal, I'll know what year the fender is and I can order the right seat.

Frank, you need a 76 to 78 seat for that pan Its a 1977 fender you can see the decal on the Honda brochure site matches it

Excellent! Edog gave me the URL right away, but I missed it because I never looked at the brochures! Thanks, that helps a lot.

Now, any ideas about the metal parts? They don't use a full seat pan, but rather a curved piece at the back that wraps around the bottom corner of the seat foam & includes two studs that go through the fender, and then two thin metal strips with two studs each that hold the seat down along the sides.

Oh, I found a seat foam & cover kit at dratv.com. It's more than I wanted to spend, but as these projects go, I'm over budget already! They have a note there that says "We have no seat pans available", so a lot of people must ask.

The best, and only suggestion I can make is to form flashing aluminum (roofing) to the bottom of the fender, then fit it formed aluminum to the seat foam, the next step is to fibreglass the top of the new "pan", next mark out the 8 holes on the seat pan necessary to mount the seat to the pan, and insert your 6mm bodymans trim bolts, then lay down 2 more layers of glass one top, one bottom, sand and detail the bottom of the seat pan, put on a thin layer of a box foam (between a box and canopy) and then bolt it all together. I put about 25 hours into the seat pan but it fits ok. The other alternative is to get a good 110 seat and do alot of modification to the steel to make it fit (torch and hammer)
