A few weeks ago I finished the 87 T3 rebuild. I was very happy w/ how it came out, it rides great and runs awsome.
Durring the rebuild I had the 86 T3 in the shop, I took some parts off it and gave some parts back to it. Now its time to get into that project. This is the 86 T3 that I picked up in PA from 3WW quite a few years ago, DOGGER met me on the way and helped me load it into my old Jeep Cherokee. I still remember the look on the sellers face when we took it apart and shoved it inside the jeep.
This will be a rider, nothing fancy, no special parts, no polishing, just a nice running, nice looking, ridable T3. It will be like a little brother to the 87 (which gets a big motor over the winter). I will stay w/ the colors of the 87, but I might swap them around a bit not sure yet.
Anyways I got it running durring the 87 rebuild, not together enuff to ride but running. I will be taking it for a ride tomarrow or Thursday, the 1st ride sence I have owned it (5 long years). I will get a picture of the befor tomarrow and post it here.
I will be looking for some parts for it once I know what I need. I know I need a front brake lever, a rear brake spring, a rear brake line holder, a fork cap and an airfilter cage. I will be looking for so/so plastics (I have scoops and a tank) and a bent set of pegs to modify, nothing perfact just complete. Any help would be great.
I had all the parts I need but durring the 86 roller for the complete 84 trade I must have given a few to many parts. The 84 will be after the 86.

THANKS FOR READIN more to come....

I have finally got to work on the 86. Its been very HOT in the garage and I just haven't been up to working on it. The time table is to have it done befor TF07 so I have alot of time to get it done.
Tonite we had a break in the heat and I decided to spend a few hours on it. I had the brakes off and a few other parts just sitting on it to try to get a befor picture (I always forget that pict LOL). It took about 2 1/2 hours to get it striped down to bare frame and start sandblasting a few of the small parts. I found white paint under the green but then found the grey factory color under the white. This T3 had a 287 bigbore kit in it and it had some pretty weird parts on it. It has a steel upper motor mount and it had the wrong (bolt pattern) hubs on it. It looks like the hubs in the prototype T3 picture that was posted (I think) by Jeb. Anyways it looks like a good project and I can't wait to get it ridable again.

I know I need a front brake lever, a rear brake spring, a rear brake line holder, a fork cap and an airfilter cage. In the future I will be looking for a radiator res and some newer fenders for it.

I will be deciding soon what I want to do w/ the motor in the 87, once I decide on the top end for it this 86 will get the 87s current top end along w/ a new rod, berrings and seals ect...

WISH ME LUCK

Do you have a problem with cracking of the rubber inlet maniflods on your 86/7 Tecates.

My 87 runs well but I can't get it to Idle once its warm, and it is a pain.

My inlet maniflod is cracked on the outside but looks good on the inside. I read somewhere else that once HOT these things can leak air if they have cracks on the surface.

You have any thoughts on the matter?

Are these manifolds still being made?

To check the intake,.. I will get the motor warmed up then take a combustable spray (wd-40, starting fluid, ect..), spray the rubber parts when the ATV is running. If the intake is cracked the spray will get sucked in and change the RPMs of the motor (because it is burning the spray). They are no longer availible you will need to keep your eyes open for them used.

GOOD LUCK

Very nice - I have always wanted a T3 when I was a kid. The kawasaki green is just incredible to look at when fresh and new. Team Green always kicked ass at lebanon valley speedway in NY.

I just bought an 86 T3 recently and the parts are just something else and not what I expected with respect to cost. Some of these parts are really an investment the way things are going. I lucked out and found a seller of an intake manifold for 100 dollars. Mine is cracked but works fine so far. I just couldn't pass on this part new.

I have some other valuable parts coming but I will not post what they are until I have them in my hands. Some of you might *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited*.

MIK - are you going to paint or powder the frame. whats the plan for color? Just wondering. I am debating now and think I will powder my frame silver. Another $250 to spend on my project.

Intake manifolds and reed cages from many years KX KDX 250 (maybe 500) will bolt up but I don't know if any align with the air box. My carb is angled some and not horizontal. I bought a used Rad valve 12? series off ebay for cheap and then clamped on a UNI Pod filter after the carb.

Here's a 1987 KX boot pic off a current ebay auction: 170010063541
No one has bid or you could buy it now for $30 to your door.

Thanks for looking guys.

brrcuda... If you look at my 87 T3 rebuild you can see the colors I will be using (its actually in the backround of the 2nd picture). The 86 will have the same colors as the 87, but it will be stock length swinger and axle. This will have a stock motor as well, I want this to be a good allaround rider. I will even be runing a headlight on it for nite riding.

nd4speed... I like to run the stock airbox so I need to find the propper angle for the manifold. I tried a Rad valve as well but could not get it to work w/ the airbox.

Yamahondaman... Ronnie I have not gotten to hook up the cooler yet. I am waiting for the bigbore for the 87 once I get the top end I will cut the hose in case any thing changes. As soon as I get the 84 running it will go on it as well. THANKS FOR THE COOL PARTS!!!!

bryan raffa... Any time you want to come up let me know. I have a ton of good riding here.

OZQUAD44... Ronnie is talking about the plastic incert in the reed cage at first. Then he is talking about an inline alu radiator cooler. He gave me a few different coolers at TF06 to try out on my T3s. He makes them and they are cool. I will line them up and take a picture and show you where they go.

I have had this trike for quite some time, it will never be sold. I am down to 3 T3s rite now, I hope to pick up another 86 this weekend (basket case, buying it for the fork parts and the title).

The 86 is in paint rite now, the cam phone won't send the pictures to the computer. I'll get them up tomarrow.

Wow.....now I"m really jealous. Unfortunately I haven't been able to make it to TF, but will be there for sure this year. ( My anniversary is the 20th so it took a little convincing and sucking up to the wife....lol ) And I don't blame you for not getting rid of any of them, I wouldn't either.

UPDATE... Frame is painted, all the small parts are in paint as well. Still missing a few small parts, I am sure they will turn up.
I am going to swap the top end off the 87 onto the 86 and put a SPROCk bigbore on the 87. I am looking into some better plastic, haven't decided how much I want to put into this trike yet LOL. I am sure I will go over budget.
I will get some pictures posted soon.

I have had a blast putting this together, i cant believe how few spare parts i have left once its all together LOL
I can still remember the day i went a picked this trike up back in 01, remember grabbing dogger off this site and making the 16 hour round trip drive for a $200 tecate.. LOL
I still have a hard time believing i only have ridden it for 30 mins!!
I have been taking my time putting it together, it still needs fork tops, carb, cables, front brakes, and plastics. Everything else is 100% ready, rebuilt shock, rear brakes, wiring harness, head and tail light, new bearings front to rear and a good running 86 stock motor.

picture later today..

I have not had any luck w/ my tecates lately!! the 87 is down waiting for parts. Ive been playing w the 86 but not a lot.

I got it together and found that the motor was locked up when i went to kick it over. i pulled it apart and found a little surface rust on the top of the piston, wouldn't let it rise when the motor was turned over. then i found the powervalves stuck, broke 2 teeth in 1 valve and 1 on the actuator rod trying to get it apart. I also found a small crack in the piston skirt. So i pulled a few parts top ends off the shelf and got something together enough to try LOL
i kicked it 5 times w/ nothing, then i realized i never put the plug cap on!!! 1 more kick and she was RUNNING!!!! I hope to finish it up tomorrow and take it for its 1st ride in 6 years and it 2nd ride since 01 when i picked it up!
