need your thoughts on 87 mojave

one of my friends moms ex boyfriend is selling a mojave that i want it is an 87
it is red the plastick is ziptied to gether in like 4 diffrent spots, the shocks are a littel on the springey side, newer axle carrer bent handel bars, leaks gas when it is running, needs carb work hard to start big rip in the seat. the guy wants 650 and wont go no lower:mad: . but it does rrun. i kinga want this bike b/c of its 4 valve DOHC l/c manual 5 speed motor. use it as my fast good bike and my 200sx as my beater/back up bike. what do you thaink, to buy or not to buy that is the question. lol

I have rode a250 mojave for 5 years I have not had problems,with it untell a couple of week ago it is a 1989 I paid 1600 dollars. I take it out about 30 or 40 days a year for 5 years. it has held up well for what i paid

Judging from the condition, it sounds like the opposite, your Mojave is going to be your beater... :D I'd say get it, but not for almost 700 dollars.

it is deffnatily worse off than my 200sx lol, but the mojave has a lot more potential
in handling and accsories and stuff. but i heard a lot of people say that the mojave is not relibal

It doesn't have that much potential. They're really dated for what you can get and not worth putting much money into unless you really have love for them. Liquid cooling doesn't always mean great machine and the handling was one of it's downfalls compaired to other machines of it's era. I'd pass on it and run fast.

my girlfriends dad has one and it has never had any problems and i beat the hell out of that bike.i was hitting a table top in 3rd gear and getting like 6 or 7 feet of air and landed soft every time and they float;)

i would rather have a 250x beau. Then you could do a 350x motor swp if you need 2

or if you had a mojave you could do a 300 cc kawasaki dirtbike motor swap witch is like an bigger version of the mojave motor with better tranny.

I rode a buddy's Mojave and it ran pretty good. Once you own a 350X though, anything less seems slow and under-powered.... but they do run fairly well though

i finaly seen the mojave a few days ago not in person but a pic of it it is not as bad as i though. plastic only has a few small cracks in it seat has a small rip in it. i thaink im going to buy it. but first i need to get the money lol. can u realy put a klr or klx 650 motor in it???

I think the klx/r 250 motor is a direct drop in, but i know for sure the 650 will require some fab for i to fit, but it would be badassm klr motor for more top end, and klx for more lowend and midrange

I had the Lakota till recently till I traded for a 400ex. I loved the Lakota, it really had good suspension(its the same as the mojave) but the lakota is heavier. I really liked the way it handled, the suspension and frame are pretty forgiving.

go for it i just posted pics of my mojave and i am enjoying it, mine had about the same problems, the gas leak was due to *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* in the card because no filter, rebuilt for about 15 bucks and its fine. other than that its a good machine, nice suspension and it is liquid cooled!!! some new sprockets and it has nice power, just about keeps up with my friends 400ex! just not top end!
