hello, i have a 83 tri moto 175 and i was missing the pull recoil starter when i bought it , so i had to push start it, it drove good for a week and then started to die at idle, i got an recoil off ebay and put it on and it wont start now, i pulled the plug out and checked if it had spark and it does, i have good compression, anyone have any ideas?

Try cleaning the carb. Take it off clean it good, then try it. Try a new plug also.

Try pulling off the carb and checking the float i have an 82 125 and i had the same problem cleaned the carb and it started right up. now i just need to get the carb adjusted. Do you have gas coming out of the pipe.

Go through the basics. Clean the carb and air filter, fresh gas and plug and then go from there.

Try getting a new plug, that one may not be sparking enough to make it start.

If you really dont want to get a new plug you could try wire brushing the plug and if the fuel filter is a inline one you could try to dump out the tank and just run without one for a little while. Just a couple suggestions without spending money. :D

Nice you got it running. I picked up a yamahauler today and I know how hard it is to start without a recoil now. First I had a broken one that I recoiled by hand everytime to start it and never bolted it on, then I lost the dog or whatever its called when it got flung who knows where when it started once so now I push start it. Hopefully I can get a new recoil soon. :D

What do you have to do just hold the throttle in a little? If so you could try to adjust the cable if you can, see if somethings wrong with the pilot jet, or try adjusting the idle. Just some ideas for you.

i have to push throttle in while i crank it , after i crank like 10 times and stop then come back to it and do the same and it might start after a little while, once it starts tho, man oh man lol it pulls like a kid in a candy store.., any ideas on hard starting and how about should i check the pilot jet?, and thanks again guys u guys are a world of help!

I dont know about the pilot, I got thinking if it ran before it cant be wrong but it might be blocked or something. Just something to think about. Do you mean you fully push it in though? If so that could mean it is getting too much gas and you have to fully open the carb slide to give the right ratio of fuel/air to run....

clean the air filter ,new plug, clean the carb,(the pilot jet ,and main jet)
check the reeds!!
change the silencer packing,-you never know there might be a mouse nest in it lol
see if it runs better ,has it ever had new rings, that you can tell???? it might be time!!
if it runs better ,and see if it smokes verry much you might need to adjust the oil mix line
try klotz oil !!! it is verry good oil
