If you went from 22" tires to 18" tires with stock gearing, would your trike go faster?

200x + 18 inch lawnmower tires + 14 tooth front sprocket + 37 tooth rear = w000t!

What did that do for you?
Good top and bottom end zoom?

That was with a modded motor. All around way better than stock but my point was more that it's just fun as hell to ride that way.

yeah, smaller tires faster acceleration, but less topend speed. you would have to change the gearing ratios to bring your top end up. all a game of hit or miss.

WELL IF YOUR GOING FOR A RACE TRIKE, YEA THAN ITS WORTH IT. I DO MOSTLY TRAIL RIDING AND I AM CONCIDERING BIGGER TIRES FOR SOME OFTHE THINGS I RUN OVER.

Oh yeah! That's what I say!!!! I have 18" holeshots and they are not the same thing. The little tires are a ton of fun, but yes, watch out for rear end clearance!!
I had to do it too. Turfsavers rule!

I have 14/36 on my 86 200x, my motor is far from stock and pulls 3rd gear holeshots. I use 18" fast trekkers. most of my bikes have 18" tires, but my xc 250r and I use I use 20" tires on my 200x sometimes too. 18" will handle better and have less body roll, and faster acceleration, but less top speed and you will feel more of the bumps.

wanta86r...thanks man!
Deathman.....I like the fast trekkers too...They look awsome on a 10" set of rims. Not too practical on the trail though. On the track I like the turf tamer because they give you too much traction, but you can cut knobs off until you reach the desired point. Holeshots are good all around, but they act like 20" tires.
The turfsaver tire is awsome on the 200X. It's the way the bike should have come from the factory.

Okay, i have 2 ytm's. one is shaft drive and the other chain. my wife wants to keep her trike, (shaft drive) stock and back to original condition. The other one I want to beef it up and get some speed out of it. Her trike needs to be rebuilt, so I put here 22 inch tires on mine and took my 18's off. I mainly trail ride, but there are some open areas where you can get on the gas and go. So what would be best in this case, smaller tires for the get up and go. I am not worried about top end speed, YET. What else can I do get more juice out of the engine. Plus I notice alot of people have a narrow tire on the front. What is that all about? I am very new to this and would appreciate all advice.
I guess I could of some this up by saying, what I am really looking for is:
something to trail ride with but also something that will throw a nice rooster tail.

If I was to change out sprockets to a bigger one in the front and smaller in the back. What other things can I do to modify the power. Budget really is not an option. The engine sounds and runs great, so until the is something internal wrong, I might not touch it yet. Can you get a little more power with a better aftermarket exhaust, and also I read some people take off the air cleaner cover.
I like the 22's on the trike, it does help with clearance. But i thought about extending the rear axles a little with smaller tires. Would there be any benefit there?

18s are the only way to go on any atc or atv if you ride hard. 22s are for work pigs or 4x4s
yes make it wide and get 18s and even if your not building the motor up at all if you regear it up some youll be faster in the corners
if you just play ride or use it for work i guess 22s would work but id go with 20s

I also run 18" Turfsavers (lawnmower tires) on my YT175 and I love them. Lots of fun.
