I have a 83 185 motor that smokes real bad and needs to be rebuilt. I also have like 4 extra 200x heads just layin around, so i was wondering if i could put a 200x head on the 185 motor? If it would work, would it give me performance or take away from my performance. All comments appreciated....thanks

It will work and will give you some performance gain. Are you talking about the whole head or just the valves an stuff? Everything will bolt up just fine.

ya it, just like post on the 200s. Make sure use the 200x cylinder and piston and new rings.

My friend and I put a 200X top end on a 1982 185S and it made a huge difference. Kinda hard to pull-start with the compression gain though. There wasnt any compression release on the X top end. Its much harder to ride than you would think though. If your 185 has no front suspension like ours, its very short and the front wheel wont stay down. Made it hard to turn and stay on the gas. Super fun to do wheelies in third gear without even trying (and I mean strait up and on the grab bar wheelies). Have fun and wear a helmet!

Oh really? This 185 with the 200x top end will be in a 200x frame, luckily...lol
