well im doing some mods to my R for the up coming dune season so i thought along with the new engine work i would flow more fule so i picked up a 38mm carb and i was going to do an ESR eliminator but didnt want to pay the money for one when i knew i could make one. it was so simple and after the filter my final cost was $23 OH YEAH!

Thats what howard has on his black R. I might do that set up too.

Dammit!

That's a much better solution than ESR anyway. The ESR kit won't even fit without grinding off one of the airbox mounts.

Good job. I like it. Might have to steal the idea. Too bad I sold my K&N filter with my ESR kit... dammit. lol

i just use the stock intake tube, with a piece of 4" pipe in between the filter and the tube, works for me,and cost me nothing to do.

BUT IT AINT SHINY!

Na I bet that does work good. I did pretty much the same thing for the silencer/pipe connection on all of my trikes. Piece of rubber hose and 2 hose clamps.

And if you wanted to make it look better just paint the hose and white stuff black and probally no one would notice. :D

a new k&N filter for a stock airbox is nearly 40.00

yeah but the filter that comes with a esr isnt a K&N

Dammit!

And the adapter isn't angled so you have to remove that airbox mount. The ESR kit = gay.

UH, in case some of you guys didnt know, all the airbox eliminator is, is a chunk of semi radiator hose and a couple chunks of aluminum tubing with a k and n. its actually not a bad price considering aluminum tubing isnt cheap, and that hose is 20$ a foot. plus a k and n is about 20 or so bucks, but i will say that the kits fit like shi t and i wouldnt buy another one, i would just go buy the stuff myself....

yeah, well im not defending the ESR kit. im just saying how much it is. I don't think it's a K&N filter with it either. and yeah looks like cut the airbox mount too.

I was just putting the price out there.:beer

Trust me i'm a cheap SOB, and if it didn't already come on my R, i would be at home depot getting the stuff myself.

"plus a k and n is about 20 or so bucks"
I don't think K&N has any filter at 20$, seems more like 45$ everytime i look at one. ha ha

is the hose that comes with it some type of high temp silicone hose? cuz mine was $6 for 7inch

the esr kit is actually made for the trx, and not for the atc, however it can be made to work on the atc. everywhere i've looked (including the esr catalog) the kit comes with an angled K&N and is only 35.00. seems like a good deal to me. like i said i paid damn near that for just a filter

whats everyones take on the k&N vs. the UNI? every K&N ive owned after ive cleaned it and oiled it i can still see holes when i hold it up to the light. anyone else had this problem?

Dammit!
07-19-2006, 05:50 PM
I've been using the same K&N filter in my R since I bought the thing in 1989. I've never held it up to the light before but it wouldn't surprise me if you can see light through it. Thing is though, in all the dust, sand and crap I've run through, never has there been any dust inside the box-to-carb boot. That tells me it works (and I didn't start using an outerwear sleeve on it until a year ago). The fact that I can go up another size in main jet with the K&N versus the Uni tells me it flows more air as well.

Bottom line: I approve!

I called ESR and he said that the ATC kit is 40$ not the 35$ thats in the catalog, so maybe they have a new kit without cutting the airbox mount? i aint sure

can you look at the top of you air filter and see if it says K&N on it to verify that what it is cuz if it is thats not a bad deal.

it could be a k&n style filter but even those arent bad my fiance has had one on her vw bug for years now and it holds up just fine and only cost about $15.00 i would buy an outerwear for it to be safe.

Well I have a "real" K&N and this one and they are made identically the same. I cant see a different in anything other than the stamp on the end.

all of the k and n's and copies are the same, in my opinion k&n's are junk. once you start cleaning them you might as well run your motor without a filter at all cause you can hold it up to the light and see holes all over them. all K&N sell is a brand name. also esr makes an atc kit and a trx kit, and if you get the same hose stuff as esr sends its like 22$ a foot, and it is actual semi rad hose and there might be some less expensive stuff out there... the prolem with making your own and making it right is getting a small chunk of aluminum tubing that size and that thin of a wall. there isnt very many people that have 3" thinwall aluminum tubing around and thats how they make their money!

they say on on the foam filter to run skins not the outerwears because it doesnt flow well enough have you seen any problems with it?
