Chirochris,

do yourself a favor - PLEASE DON'T WELD IT!!!!!!

You can get cheapo aftermarket shifters at you local bike shop - Emgo makes one that will fit. Or you could order and OEM, but they can be pricey - upwards of $50. Or you could put an ad in the classifieds here on the boards and someone will sell you one - or check Ebay - but please please do not weld it.

Do Not Weld It! Way too many people do it and it just causes more problems.

Are you talking about the shifter or the shaft? What trike?

Are the splines totally stripped ? or still have a little bit of bite ?

Sometimes you can get by with widening the gap where the bolt goes thru to allow a bit more torque by the bolt.. but a new shifter is cheap and well worth it.. avoid the welding option if at all possible.

just drill a hole through the shifter and the shaft then put a bolt through. that way its still removeable and it cant slip
