My wife's 400ex is running poor. It is though it is running out of gas and will not restart unless you choke it then after a few times it will not start at all till it sits. Is there a filter on the fuel system? I can't find it in the owners manual or by looking at the bike. Do I have to pull the carb apart to clean it out? There has to be some kinda filter doesn't there?
Thanks

Try cleaning the petcock and the carb. Number 1 14 25 etc etc on the schematic.

pull the fuel hose off the carb and let it free flow into a bottle, if it stops flowing after a minute or 2 you know the tank is full of junk. Could also have some debris in your float.

Cool. It have very few hours but maybe she filled it out of the wrong jug. I know she filled it with some fuel for my 250r but that shouldn't have done it.
Thanks

I fingered it out. Even if she tells you it has plenty of gas before you tear it down to check the in tank screen fill it up and see. The screen was clean as as a new one. But it only had a .5 gallon in the tank. So I filled it to the top and went and beat on her bike and it ran like a champ. I guess I should have followed the KISS rule and checked the simple first. Oh well now she can ride with me again.
