I am looking at making my Tecate longer and wider, less wheelies and better for cornering.

Does anybody know if an 84/85 Tecate Swinger will bolt up to the 86/87 Tecates? I spotted this on ebay

Also, now that no-one makes wide axles for 86/7 Tecates anymore, anyone got any suggestions how to make the rear end wider without spacers or offset rims.

Any help would be appreciated.

not bad swingers in my opinion. look alot like the champion swingers. i have my eyes on one for my 85, but not sure if they will work for the 86/7 model. and for the price you cant go wrong.

The 84/85 swinger is not a direct bolt on to 86/87. That seller needs more pics of that swingarm posted and that makes me wonder about its quality. I asked questions about swingarms and axles too like many others and did not get much response except from those who were sitting on parts to sell. Would you tell someone a 400ex axle works in the 86 T3 if you and your friends were selling stock ones (fabricated swingers too)? I broke down and bought a stock one which was very nice and mint for $75.

One guy kept saying the 400ex axle is on his machine. Here is the post:

Also I made a post comparing the Suzuki LT250R axle which slides right in but there is a lip like .25 inches on the brake hub that might have to be machined off or maybe not since I just butted it against the seal and not inside of it. The area where the bearings would ride would line up close enough. I think one could make that work too without much effort.

i have heard of a 400ex axle working on the rear but that was in a new miltech swinger. they make them that way so you have more choices to choose from if you wanted to go with a different longer axle. but like i said that was a miltech swinger that is built that way, to except the 400ex parts. but i have not heard of a 400ex axle working in a stock bearing carrier though. could be wrong, might wanna do some investigating.

Look at the bottom of this post- T3 stock carrier plus 400ex extended axle.

Thanks nd4speed
I just sent him a PM to get some more details. I hope he wasn't playing around.

That would make life so much easier to have a bolt up solution.

There is another guy on here that makes a swingarm extender, if that is as good as it looks then my Tecate will rock

hows your 86 comming along?

Well my 86 T3 was crashed by the previous owner. Bent forks. The rear axle was bent on rightside and now that it is together the swingarm is tweaked at bearing carrier. You can see the slight misalignment of the carrier/axle. I found this out by launching it and having it pull to the right some. Also seems to have front wheel hop like the front axle was bent too- wouldn't surprise me. But I was lucky to find that parts T3 in my avatar which has a good swingarm/front axle/forks and so on.

So I have to order stuff like bearings first before putting the other parts on. I am waiting on Z400 hubs for my quadracer so I can buy 4/110 rims and paddle tires. I am also lookin for 200x or 300ex rear hubs for the T3 so I can swap the paddles back and forth. I picked up Blaster 24 spline hubs for the T3 but they are a little loose for my liking hopefully the Hondas fit better.

Also need better undamaged shrouds and to get the jetting right. It is ridable and fast enough for now.

I also need a Front brake line if anybody knows what swaps on there.

Hagen from Germany makes an extension for the swingarm. It looks awesome but out of my price range.

I saw a KX500 motor in a Suzuki LT250R that got me dreamin about makin a Kawuzuki KXLT250 trike. I'd probably like the name better than the outcome.

Well I started thinkin things like that after I finally rode my T3 on a dirt road and found the gears seemed really short and it topped out in 5th in no time and I didn't seem to be movin that fast like my LT. 39mm carb. The gearing is stock 13/37. I am sure the DG pipe doesn't help the power much but the gearing is so motorcycleish. 1st and 2nd gear don't seem to get up and go and 3rd is where it wants to get it.

But when on grass the front tire comes off the ground in every gear I just need the balls to let the clutch rip with more throttle and keep it there.

I see that you have got a KX inlet manifold on your Tecate. Does this cause you any problems? do your legs rub against it when your riding?

Hornetspower makes real nice shrouds for the radiator. I'm going to get a set off him very soon for mine. My tank is all faded too like most 86/7s, this annnoys me a bit and I'm thinking of taking it to a profesional paint shop to see if they can match it to the other plastic on the bike.

I'm also struggling with the tyre issue. It has a nice set of original tyres but Id like to put a fresh set on for riding but I don't want to ruin the originals in the process.

I made an extended axle for my ī86 Tecate 3 and I planned to make more. Long story short, nobody was willing to pay 450-500 bucks for an axle.
I didnīt even earn money with it, since I had to get it all done at different machine shops.
Plus my axle has a spline pattern that Durablue can only dream of, precise as hell.

The rear axle extension really pissed me off too. ScottZJ bought one from me on eBay for one lousy dollar........
Thatīs why I stopped making them.
I know, when it comes to this theme I AM A WHINER.
Sorry, but I just canīt compete with prices like for the 85 swingarms on egay right now......

Iīm planning another batch series of parts for quads. If I can get special aluminum I will make +4" rear ends for the Tecate stock swingarm and sell these.
The tech draws are here for a few years now anyway.
Then you only need an angle grinder to cut off the old piece and somebody to weld on the new rear end.
Anybody interested can send me an email to CGR@gmx.info
I think left and right plate + 2 crossbars incl. shipping will cost max. 100$.
What you get then is a cnc cut material in 7020 quality (strong as normal steel and weldable).
Give me some time to reply......... itīs *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**E dited* hot and I like to drink too much beer :beer
CYA guys, keep the T3s alive

The UNI Pod filter is 5 inches total I believe and it touches the frame tube and sticks out a little, so it may be possible to catch it with a leg. I don't see it being a problem. Just ordered a 4 inch Uni pod 2 stage filter (this maybe same filter though). Also I had to replace the Boyesen rubber boot with an unknown slighty longer more robust one I bought from a local mechanic.

I want to buy a set of shrouds from Hornetpowersports and support another Michigander but I have not tried to contact him and I do not intend to bid so much on his ebay auctions as others do. I would gladly spend $65 plus S&H for them. There are lots of shrouds on ebay now though.

I saw a T3 that had a blue custom upolstered tank cover that was tight. It was the best idea I've seen.

Most of the best metalworking in the world is done in Germany. If I find someone who can weld aluminum I would have no problem cutting my bent swingarm and trying those extension plates. Sorry about the mistake I made posting.

nd4speed... I am the guy that made the blue tank cover. I will be making a 2nd 1 for my 86. I will be getting some lime green vinyl and trying my hands at making the same cover. The blue was just a test piece to get the patterns for the green, I just loved it once it was on the T3.

I might have a front brake line here. I am looking for a few misc parts for my 86T3. Do you have anything you would part w/ off your parts trike? I know I need a front brake lever, a rear brake spring, a rear brake line holder, a fork cap and an airfilter cage. I think I have everything else I need. I have found the fork top (I think, need to drive to the yard and pull it off) but the other parts I am still looking for. Let me know if you could part w/ the parts.

THANKS
MIK6 / Mike

I may have ........well.... all of those parts. LOL! I am not sure I would ever part with the airfilter cage though.
