well what a beautiful day.it was hot as heck, but sunny, well most of the day.a few light sprinkles rolled in right before our second race.none the less it was an awesome day.max, and rachel made it out to watch, and keep us company between races, thanks guys!!!!
Well when we first rolled in i was amazed at how many people were talking out loud. "Did you see that, those are sick" one kid said. It was awesome.we got more comments today then we usually do.
Anyway the track was knarly.a huge 6 pack section, and 2 doubles, with a chicane at one end,and a sweeper with a huge breaking bump at the other end. Most of the quads were donig the rythem section. It was 3 doubles, back to back, and they were big. The first was 15-17'. The second was 25',and the third was 30'. No trikes did the 6 pack either. Derrick and I both missed the first practice and lined up on the gate, nervous. These doubles were huge 6 foot mounds of dirt. The first was 27',and the second was 35'.back to back.
So our first race was a practice/race session. It went well though. I finished 4th overall, out of 9. Derrick finished 7th. Not bad considering we were just learning the track.
The second race TimSr,and TimJr. showed up. This made it even more fun. So now we had a total of 4 trikes, and 5 quads in our class. A full gate! So right off the holeshot I got stuffed inside, and nailed a barrel. I didn't lose any positions, but lost some steam. I came out right beside Derrick, and we were 5th-6th, so the drag race was on. We couldn't jump the double because of all the riders bunched up, which kept everyone sandwiched together down the long straight. After the double, double there was a hard left into the chicane, which claimed a quad. He spun out in front of me,and I locked her up. Derrick saw his opportunity, and snuck by underneath.
Now the race was set. I never seen D-Rock push so hard, the dude was flyin.:w00t: I was nippin at his heels, but wasn't gaining alot of ground. The second lap he opted not to hit the double, and I did. I made up a little ground, maybe 3 bike lengths. This put me within striking distance.
Still for the next lap I had to follow Derrick. No way was he letting me around and no way was I close enough to pass. Meanwhile TimSr,and TimJr. are in heated battle with the zuki450r.
So we come outta the 6 pack, and I pulled on Derrick a bit going through the left handed sweeper. Now I knew I had to pass. 2 laps left, and it was now or never. So I wack the throttle hard to take the first grandstand double. I over shot the 27'er by about 5 foot. Flat landing with a THUMP! But I managed to squeeze by.
Through the chicane we go! I knew Derrick was faster than me there, so I hugged tight, and left no room for error if he wanted to pass. When I squeaked out there with the lead still in my hands, I blasted the 6 pack as hard as my little trike would go.
I was clearing the first double all day, and this time was no different. What I wasn't doing all day was casing the crap outta the second double. This time I did. My Elka soaked it right up though and we were off again.
It was the last lap and I was still uncomfortable in my lead. I had a bike length, but that not enough. So I told myself to be smart, hit the double, and walk through the chicane one last time. I ended up with my third 1st place finish of the faircross season, in the 3 wheeler class.
Well thats my take on the day. Hope it gets you guys the picture. O yeah, I got a few pics. No action shots. I'll get em posted tomorrow.
