ok i have an 85 tri-z and the forks need new seals. I already have them in hand, but i dont have the service manual for the tri-Z yet. I Have never rebuilt forks so im sorta chicken to do it without the service manual. I do however have the service manual for my 250r. my question is are all forks built similar and can i use the manual i have for refference in rebuilding my Z forks. or are the hondas a diferent design than the yamaha's.

next question is how hard is it to rebuild the forks? should i try on my own or just leave the job to the experts. Any special tools required, or is it pretty straight forward. (Its me thats riding this thing so i dont mind paying to have it done right if it means keeping my arse in one piece lol.)

last question i found progressive fork springs @ chapparral racing for the tri-z and im wondering. if i should replace the springs with these springs. what are the benefits? How often do you need to change the fork springs? im not sure what i have in the forks now but im pretty sure they are oem and they seem to work fine but if im gonna take the forks apart and rebuild, If there is a major benefit to swaping the springs i may consider doing it at the same time.

The advantage of progressive springs is that they get stiffer as they compress. This gives you a smooth ride over the little bumps and the stiffness you need for the big stuff. That's the theory anyway. I've never owned a set.

As for the fork seals, I've only done Hondas but I can't imagine the design being all that much different. You're going to need to find out the right amounts of fork oil/weight and all that though.
