I think its about that time to get some new rings for my 225dx. I dont know its starts and runs fine but i think its the same rings that were made with it. I think there stock. It has compression but its not hard compression. I can start it without the decompression lever. Im going to get a compression tester and tell you guys whats the reading. Maybe somone can tell me if i should get new rings. Also where can i find a cheap tester that will fit my spark plug hole? Thanks.

Also do i have to remove the engine to change rings?

You can do an entire top end rebuild with the motor in the frame.

Do a compression test first like you said. Then dig into it and mic everything to make sure its all in spec.

Is your exhaust smokey at all?

Most motors can be started without a decompression lever. It is there to make starting easier. If it aint broke why fix it??

Ok well it doesent smoke at all. My freind has a 225dx, and he has an exhaust. Ok well i have a 225 and i have an exhaust. We have both same 20inch tires. His is much much harder to start then mine. Well in a race he smokes the heck out of me, he is in 4th half throttle and im in 5th full throttle and he is next to me. I dont get this, so im guess new rings would get better compression and have my trike run better maybe harder and faster. I think he has an overbore and upsized jets to match the exhaust. Im not sure and neither he is, he bought it off some guy that dident know nothing about it. I havent yet to match my new exhaust up with bigger jets yet, but i dont think by doing that its ganna make be beat him. Also i was wondering is the all black 225 have anything different engine wise? Its a special edition, but is that why he beats me?

you would be surprised what correct jetting will do fo ra motor, years ago My freind had an kxt110 and with a few mods got the thing to go 60 mph! it waz insane! of course since there wasnt any thing for one of them we kinda made whatever we had work, (honda cobra pipe, carb off a honda, straight filter) take it to a decent shop and get them to put some bigger jets in or just do it yourself, it may take a while but it will save you some money, and you might be able to smoke the other guy, also are you both the same weight? becouse a big weight difference will make a big differnce in the machines

I supposed thats part of the reason, no he weights about 100 more punds then me.

damn, I think you just need to rejett, add a free'er flowing airfilter, is ther any chance his has been rebuilt and bored out? does he have differnt gearing? taller tires? or do the bikes look like perfect twins?

Im going to rejet i doubt it will make that big of a difference. Im going to get a k&n clamp on 2. His has alot of compression so im think it was boerd to next size with wiesco piston, but were not sure at all. I heard you cant change the gearing at all, and same tall tires both us are 22's/

shaft drive on those models? he might have a higher compression piston then as well, does his run well on low grade pump gas?, oh also are your valves adjusted up to spec? that helps alot to

Yep there shaft drive. I think he does, also we rin the same on all punp gas makes no difference even old 5 month old gas dident bother. I dont have specs or the right tools to adjust them, dont even have somthing to read to tell me the basics. Hey thanks syko for all the replies.

I suspect that his engine has been rebuilt (top end) bigger piston, a little bump in the compresion up, but not enought to use high grade fuel, and rejeeted for this as well, If you never adjusted the valves, then Its long overdue, get that done and the other mods and that may help you out tremendously, any chance your clutch could be slippin? It might be slipping jsut enough, but not enough for you to tell, getting enougth fuel to the engine, check the plug, clean the carb, check/ adjust everything, you may find out that after doing a bunch of simple stuff your machine will rip! are you running car oil? if so hit yourself and drain it out and get some decent motor cycle oil, peace out.

Im going to soon, its a cobra slip on. Im using stock header its louder than his and he has the full dg exhaust system. It has like no packking its like a straight thru pipe but not really. Well its a slip on. here are pics.

Thanks.

Well i got a question, ok i just put a slip on cobra pipe on it, and im going to run a clamp on filter. So my question is how many jest sizes should i go up with each jet? I dont have the money to waste on finding out which ones. Just tell me what you would go with in my situation. I was thinking 2 for the main jet and 1 for the little jet? Let me know thanks.
