Ok guys just picked up 3 bikes and I was wondering which one you guys would think I should restore. They are:

water cooled rm 125(not sure of the year)maybe late 70's early 80's
1976 mr 250 elsinore
1979 xl 250.

All 3 have great compression, I actually got the xl 250 to start up(with tons of smoke) I am just getting into dirt bikes, just don't know history-wise which one would make the best bike.

I would go with the Elsinore too, they are the clasic bike of the group.

I was leaning towards the elsinore anyways, I just don't know much about 2 strokes. The rm 125 has the full floater suspension. Any ideas of the year, I was planning on parting 2 of the bikes to restore one of them.

Are you sure 82' ? I thought the 125RM was the frist watercooled 2stroke with the introduction of the Fullfloater in 81'. I'm most likely wrong, but the uni rear shock was 81' for the RM's. Hows the pipe on the Elsinore still in good shape? I had a 77' 125 with a downswep pipe, and a steal tank that took some beatings. Fast little screamer, it seemed to rev to the moon. The bike like to be kept wound up in the powerband and handeling was an issue. I'd say Honda if your intention is to sell the bikes off. If the RM is frist generation, to the right collector, it could be worth more. As far as the XL250 I'd find an old CR80 roller and squeeze that motor into it.

Probably 82-84 i think the goofy Full floater suspension went for, i know 86-87 went to a conventional mono shock system, The elisnor is a 2 stroke too you know..:D With t agood rider on a track they aint much Slower than some of the new 250's they just get Whooped on in the suspension department........I have seen a ported one Rip the center Knobs off the tire on dry Cement.....They "Go" for an old bike, and they look cool as hell.
