I'm just glad we made it back in one piece.... WHAT A DAY!!! :w00t:

Josh (brapp) nathan (wheeliepop) and myself headed out this morning for a full day of riding. All went well untill the suzuki decided to bust a ball joint way out in the middle of nowhere... Damn Quads!!! ;)

The terrian we were on I would not wish on my worst enemy... I guess one too many rocks finally put the Zook out of it's misery...... :(

Josh did manage to piggy-back it back to civilization.... THANK YOU!!!! or I'd probably still be out there...

Nate and Josh got some pics so check back for some great hillclimb shots....

That boy Brapp certianly ain't wrapped too tight... He got more balls than brains... :w00t: :D

GIT IT RAAAGGGGG!!!!!!!

Pics of the carnage....

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE PARTS I NEED TO FIX THIS??? the sad part about this all is that ab out a month or two ago I sold two good usable a-arms that I had on ebay.... thinking to myself... "I'll probably never need these..."

wow, thats one worn out ball joint! i had one on my lt500 fall out while i was doing about 30. a arm dug right in the ground and the damn thing spun me right around! also happened again while going through some whoops, i flew over the bars that time!

those look just like the quadracers, and i think they are, i'll have to check the part numbers. but you can buy them of ebay new for $25, from east coast atv. the go for $50 from suzuki. thats a weak link in the suzuki's front end

yeah, there the same. heres a link to a new one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/230qs-lower-NEW-ball-joint-230-qs-quadsport-lt230_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43981QQihZ015QQit emZ250019130847QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Seems the Zooks have alot of "weak links"...

We just got done going through some nasty mud and up a terribly boulder strewn trail when this one let go.. good thing cause i wasn't going that fast at the time... The thing that sucked was we were probably 10 miles or so from help. (and to make things worse we had spotted a big ass black bear right beforehand...)

Brapp came up with the idea to hook the front end up to the top of his grab bar on the fo fity using bungee's and a large tree branch shoved down behind my front bumer and his grabber.... Surpringly it worked long enough to get us out to the nearest road... :w00t:

Good thing too or we would of been campin out... :naughty:

What a day.............. . ............... .......... . . ... ..............

Edit: shawn, thanks for the link. ;) I may as well just go ahead and replace both sides I suppose?

aftermarket joints sound like a good idea, but there is none for the old suzuki's. only stock. thats how the getcha! plus there not as popular as the new quads, so the aftermarket has sorta left them behind.

chris, i would replace both sides. its just a matter of time before the other one fails! plus there cheap enough compared to suzuki oems!

i used a rachet strap to hold up the a arms together the last time one of the joints failed on me. and was able to ride it back.

For some reason this does not look like the part I need. (If you look at the close up pic I posted earlier) The lower a arm looks like all one piece?

And this is the part from that auction???:wondering

the link is the schematic from bikebandit.

chris its number 5. that auction i posted is for number 5 on the schematic you posted. its called a knuckle. they come out. there is a 17mm bolt underneath the arm. look at the arms on this http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/oem_schematic_view~schem_dept_id~724304~section_de pt_id~1~section_dept_name~OEM+%28Stock%29+Parts~de pt_type_id~2~model_dept_year~1987~model_dept_mfr~S uzuki~model_dept_id~703463~model_dept_name~LT230EH .asp

as you can see, the joints are seperate from the arm.

you have to unbolt it and bang it out. it will come out, trust me.

Oh OK.. I was thinking that part was threaded inside and went on the end of a tie rod. I was just out there messing with this a bit and your are indeed correct sblt500. There is a 17mm bolt on the inside underneath holding this on. This shouldn't be too bad at all to fix,,, but I need to get the trike back together and out of the garage before I tear into this one.

Where the heck is Josh and Nate with the PICS?!?!?! :w00t:

We were gonna stop at a Super Walley World last night but we didnt come acrossed one, SO Josh was gonna run out today and get the pics on a disk I guess. I'll see him later in the week and maybe if he goes to his girlfriend's house he'll upload them

2:30 AM??? wtf? did you guys get lost of something? I'm glad you guys made it home ok... I was a bit worried about his truck.

I too am sore as a mofo... 2 straight days of riding all day is a bit much for my old bones to handle. (3 days if you count bouncing around in a truck most of the day of friday.) But I still got a smile on my face! woohoo!!!

a few pics of friday's outing

  I can't wait to do this again... I got my axle bearings in today for the trike so I should have that back up and running in no time... I'd rather ride that anyways... no "ball joints" to worry about on that eh?!

:pics: Better get on the ball with those pics BRAPP!!! :naughty:

Well Brapp just stopped by. His girlfriend is gonna try to find the right plug and post the pics.

Remeber when he said his ankle hurt? We he fractured 2 bones in his ankle kick starting the 450R. He has someone lined up to buy it and might go through with it.
Doc said no riding for 3 months... Josh said he will see you in two weeks . He even said he might bring the 450 back and jump again

Haha... poor Brapp. I just spoke to him as well and came in here to post the info you just did.

His foot is swollen to the point where he can't even get his boot on. 2 broken bones in his foot. I'm surprised that's all that guy broke riding the way he does.....

Well so much for my first post saying at least we all made it home in one piece... :D

He should have some of those pics (including his wonderful park job behind the gas station  ) posted up in the next couple of days.

I'll be sure to have my camera next trip.

Josh says Git It RAGGGGG! and that he will be at the next ride, so I guess I'll have to tag along as well ;).

Got word from my shock back. It'll cost me around $25 and I DESTROYED IT. If I was to have them redo it instead of Josh saying it was his It would cost more than a brand new shock . Thank you Brapp :w00t:

oh man chris, thats what you get for riding a quad... never the less a LT230.. i had one of those, they break like a herrs potato chip under a fat womans heffer sized foot. not insulting your quad, err lawn mower, but really, i had a few quads, and the LT230 was the worst. surprising power for a 230 4-stroke, but still. a peice. :-D

Lol... I havent really had any problems with it up until recently... I got a bunch of new parts here waiting to go on it.. Including new chain, rollers, rear axle bearings, break pads, carb rebuild kit, etc etc... I only jumped on this because my Sx was down.. it's actually my son's quad.

We never did get any pics posted up of this ride... sure was fun though.
