Might pick up an 89 cr 80. Is this year model a good one or are they hard to find parts for? Not sure what I'm getting into but friend said it only needs rings and a new piston.

i had one...... put over 2000 into rebuilding the motor....... but i forgot to put the new crank bearing into it... so i put the old one in..... wellllllllllll i kinda blew the rod threw the bottom...... but no pistons are extremely easy to find... and btw.... new rings... new piston..... new bore.... its gonna happen , it might run for a little... but not long......

Alright I got it... But I also got it for nothing. (I traded my paintball gun for it.... lol) I have taken the cylinder, piston and man is it messed up. Part of the ring broke off and started gouging anything in sight. It looks like it tried to seize like he didn't put enough oil in it... He said when he replaced the rings, and piston he didnt take it easy, he just gave her hell. That's more than likely what screwed it up. I have taken it to a local salvage yard and they didnt have any cylinders or complete motors.:( I am going to a shop later this week to see how much it will cost to get it bored and sleeved. I was told I might need to replace the rod bearings, but not sure if I can tackle that. *** On the positive side of this trade, it has brand new tires and rims, aftermarket suspension, and a procircuit pipe. So I can part it out and put the mulah into my 200x!!!:w00t:

if you need any parts let me know, ive been building CR80's all year. i got 76 hour in to a 89 resteration from frame up for my fiance. motors are the same from 86-95 with no change. 86-02 jugs are the same and no are pistons cranks, bottem ends...case covers change Part numbers but are 100% the same form 86-02, just painted sliver from 96-02. CR85 stuff bolts on also. really the motor has not changed in years.

parts i got are 2 extra right side case overs, tripple tree, foot pegs, coil and CDI, prob some other suff. they are fun bikes, i just rebuild the bottem end last weekend, simple.:w00t:

Man, I dont even know if it's worth all the trouble... I might just looks for a runnig motor on ebay, because if I do a full rebuild it will cost around $500. Maybe a little more, or a little less. But I could find a motor for it that hasent been opened up or nothing for around that same price. Anyone got a motor for me. :) lol

I would just rebuild the one you have, Cause Most any 80 motor on Ebay is going to need a rebuild anyways, No one maintains them and they Are Very high maintence bikes, 95% of the motors i have gotten off ebay have been Junk, sold by *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**E dited* morons who dont know what there talkin bout.;..:beer
