Triker111, I don't know of anyone who is making the kits for the 185s anymore. I have 2 kits, 1 is bolt on and the other is weld on. The bolt on kit pictures are listed on the website, but I will try and post one if the site will let me. Most people nowadays put 185s or 200s engine into a 200x frame and they call it an auto-x. The biggest part of the conversion is to make the rear brake pedal assembly and someone on here at one time was making and selling them. Do a search for auto-x rear brake pedal or just auto-x and see what you find. The suspension 185s is very cool. I also have suspension atc70s', which to me are even cooler. You can do a search for suspension 70 and suspension 185 and you should see my pictures, but I'll try and post 1 or 2.

Here is the kit that I bought for my Yamaha 200, it is very similer to the Honda 200s kit made by the same company (I can't remember their name now). As far as I know these kits have long since been discontinued.

You know what this means right? Their patents have probably run out, right? You have a template, right? I say start your own cottage industry of high quality chro-mo suspension kits for trikes. :w00t:
I'll be the first to buy one! :beer

The kit I have would not be that hard to reproduce provided there is a good source of rear shocks that will fit it. The trouble is makeing a kit is that it has to be cheap, if it is not cheap then who is going to buy one? Most probably wouldn't even pay the $300 the kits cost back in 1984 let alone the price it would be to make one now. And for me the YTM is a far less popular machine then the Hondas so there would be an even smaller market.

Shoot, make a standard version and some accessory bags you can buy for it to make different shocks adapt to it. Use a well known shock style (300EX rear shock for example) for the standard. :) YOU GOTTA MAKE A 110 KIT. PLEASE.

Thanks guys for the great info and for posting those pics. Ive had this debate before with a couple of buddies. If it would be easier to try and make one of these kits or go with a 200x frame, my other question then is if i choose to go with the 200x frame can i use all my 185s parts like plastics and seat etc... i doubt it huh?? well thanks again guys.

I don't think 185 and 200x engines/frames/plastics/seats are compatible. Not that it would be too hard to weld some engine mounts, but I would say just run the 185 while you wait to buy a 200x. :)

Has anyone tried using a 200x swingarm and shock on a 185s frame? I know you would have to weld a top shock mount to the frame right under the front of the seat.
Can it be done with modification?
My cousin said he would give me a 200s with a 185s engine in it, so I was just wondering if it could be done.
I would like to try it if I know it could be done, but it does seem if you put the 200x swingarm on the 200s frame it looks like it would be to short and the swingarm would need to be stretched.

I want to do that with my 185s I have access to a welder if I need one. Could
I just use a 200x swinger, pivot arm and shock?

My dad may be able to have one of the kits made at worK like the swinger and stuff. He would need a patern.

If you guys have a chain driven ATC with a swinger I think making your own stuff would be a piece of cake. I'd use a Blaster shock because they are cheap and use no linkage. Anytime I fab something up, I use cardboard for the rough idea
For so long I have wanted to update the SX suspension but with it being a driveshaft driven ATC, I can't lengthen the swinger and the airbox would simply have to go away. I do hope to come up with something but I think your ATC wouldn't be difficult at all and far superior to that bolt on upgrade with 20yo science....

and i rhink the 185s engine will fit, my bro put a xl185 engine with no mods at all into a 200x and it worked fine.

Hey I was thinking about this some more and I was wondering if you could use a 81/82 250r front end on one to keep the look of the front fat tire look, also I was thinking if you could use the forks from the 81/82 250r forks also since it seems like the front of a 81/82 250r front end sits pretty low so you wouldn't have the extra forks coming out of the top of the triples so much. Does anyone think you could use that?
