I posted a couple questions her about whether a CR caliper would work on an ATC 250R. Well....it does indeed work! I got the caliper today (listed to fit 97-99 CR's), and started looking at things.
I used the stock 250R bracket, and it was a done deal.......almost.
If you look at the pics, you will see the slider pin right by the bleeder. It threads into the caliper. This slider pin is too small for the hole in the bracket, so I did some machining.
I made the hole in the bracket a little bigger to accept a bronze bushing, which I machined to make a nice fit on the pin. Now things are perfect. That is the only thing I had to do. Otherwise, it was a bolt-on deal. By the way..in the pics, it looks like the caliper is tight to the rim. It isn't much more than the stock one, but enough that I don't think a 10" rim will fit, even with some fin grinding.

Excellent find and post. I wish we could find info like this more often :)

This is the kinda thing we need to work on. We need a sticky or something that we can collect all info about retro fitting parts.

I offer up my find: Honda trx300ex shift shaft, is interchangable, and almost identical to the Honda atc350x's shift shaft.

AWESOME find! The front calipers on these things aren't getting any newer so its always nice to find a newer part that is easily adapted to our old machines.

Been doing some research on the Nissin front calipers.
I have found that all but one I have seen are the same from 1992 to present. The only thing different is the bracket.
CR has one bracket, while it appears that KX, RM, and YZ share a different one. For front brake application, it won't matter which of the bikes the caliper came from.
They are all physically the same, as far as I can tell.
For the rear, It has been said that a late model YZ front caliper and bracket can be used on a 250R rear ,with a little hole egging.
If this is so, then KX, RM, and YZ front calipers should all work for the rear on a 250R. This all comes from my observsation that all theNissin front calipers are the same, with the brackets being different on the CR, and that I bolted a CR front to my R in the front with little trouble..
If anyone has some good knowledge of MX bike calipers, let's hear your insight so we know that the facts are straight.;)

that was me about the yz front on a 86-89 atc/trx250r rear. all i had to do was egg the one hole slitly on the caliper bracket that attaches to the alxe housing. i did it on my 86 trx and my brother Swigins 350rx conversion.

on yz's 97-05 is all the same caliper
