ive been planning for a while on building my own atc from scratch.i would like to improve on the original. kinda like a trike up to todays standards, i have a couple of ideas i think independent rear suspension would be good. also i was thinkin of making the trike big. how would you guys build your ultimate atc.

Find a unique headlight to put on it! Something with some curve, nothing old.
Good luck man, hope your wallets fat!
Seriously, Go for it!.

No offense, but I think the IRS would be a bad idea. I'm afraid it would make body roll extremely bad in turns. Not a good thing on a trike.
Sounds like a great idea building one though. Good luck with your project.

Yea your right i been debating the irs too, thats why nothings set in stone yet i need a few more ideas first. ill let you know, also keep in mind with that setup only the suspension will move hopefully the frame will remain level and stable.

IRS, if you lean ALOT like i do, meaning, if you lean left, your foots completely off the right peg, if your suspension is semi-soft, and you have IRS then the left shock would compress, and right one would decompress, meaning it would HELP you lean into a turn so the bike does NOT roll as easily. so in theory, it would be a good thing, but theoretically, if the bike does tilt more when you lean more, then you could pull the right side up by leaning left too much. therefore, it would be learning how to ride a completely differnt machine. if you want to do it - and are afraid to ride it. build it and ill test it out LOL

you might me able to make some kind of tortion bars for the back if you do the independent suspension, like what a newer snowmobile has on the skis, its a rod that runs across the front of the sled and its connected to the the A arms with a couple ball joints, when one shock is compressed it compresses the opposite shock equally
but if you did that you would want to make it so you can remove a pin or pull a lever or something to "dissengage" the tortion bar, because if the tortion bar is always used you dont have any advantage over a solid axle. you could switch back and forth between having the tortion bar engaged or dissengaged, and ride it what ever feels better for how your riding that day. thats just my .02, hope it made sence.
