Hi guys,
im new to this forum and i recently bought an 83 honda big red for $100 in pretty good shape. Im not sure what size it is. But ive got a few questions.

The Front axle has some problems. Im pretty sure its the bearings, because the tire wobbles and its all around messed up. But the guys i bought it from gave me some new bearings from honda still in the package. But my probelm is i can get the front axle off. The screw that was there seems to be long gone, but im thinkin maybe the axle itself is bent and thats why its not coming out. When i turn it it turns but doesnt unscrew or anything, and when i knock it with a hammer it doesnt budge.

My next question is what mods can i get for this bike? Im thinkin some smaller tired because the ones on it are huge.

O and ive owned atvs and dirtbikes, this is my first 3-wheeler

Thanks

Whatchya got there is a 4 stroke 200cc work machine with a high low range sub gear box. For the front axle to be removed there is 4 10mm bolts on one side, when you remove these it frees that side of the axle allowing you to turn it out. Mods you can get include, aftermarket pipes, high compression pistons, higher, or lower gearing, smaller or bigger tires, new plastics, race cams, and some other engine related items.

i was going to tell you about the 4 10mm bolts on one side you need to take out but i assumed you already did that and the axel just wouldnt come out after that... my bad...
i used to own one of these ... they are very very tuff... lol and they float... lol dont ask... well ill tell any way... if you keep the big tires and you are ever out riding you can walk next to it and float it accros a streem trust me it will float if the big tires are left on it.. just dont let go or it will flip over being it only has 3 wheels lol... other then that again they are very tuff little bikes and torque monsters...

ok im not seein these 2 10mm bolts. Theres just a big round head at one end with a hole in the side, and on there other side is some threads sticking out with 2 sets of holes going through it

it should look like almost like an one inch by one inch square on eather the left or right side by the bottom of the fork tube...its about half an inch thick and when bolted up is part of the bottom fork tube that holds the front axel in....some one must have pics... can you see the whole axel on eather side of the fork tubes at the end if you can then the hold down cap is missing but if that were true then the axel would be able to flop out of there ... can you take any pics of the bike at all...one side is going to look like the axel is almost hollow i think with and end on it that looks like you can put a ratchet on it and the other side should have the hold down plate...

sorry i cant get pics.

But are you talking about the screws on the bottom of the forks?

on the left side stiking out it what looks to be the end of the axle that is threaded.
on the right side is a solid metal head with a hole in the side

It look liek it should slide right out but it wont budge. Think i could hurt anything if i just whacked on it?

maybe its bent? could that be a posibilty?

yeah it may be bent but if there is something holding in there that needs to be removed first him wacking on it is going to ruin it big time... i dont want to just assum that everything is removed and say yeah wack away lol with out pics... im stumped man... the last 200 i had had a plate that held the axel in on one of the sides of the forks....its pretty late right now but im sure there is some one that will be on tomorow that will have pics for you... so do your self a favor and dont go getting a sludge hammer quite yet man... you may do more damage then good....

im pretty sure the cap thing that needs to be removed should be on the opposite side it looks like you can put a rachet on

yeah im gonna wait until tommorow, i may be able to get ahold of a camera, But for what i paid for it, its in way better condition than i figured it would be, other than this the thing is close to perfect

The metal head you are talking about with the hole in it. To me it seems that would be an axle nut. The hole is for putting a cotter pin in it. Do you have the front brake on their?

The front brake is not hooked up. Im about 100% sure that the only thing keeping the axle from sliding out is that it is bent. Anyone know where i can get a new pin/rod/axle?

Check ebay. But there are a lot of guys here that could probably hook you up. By the way, does your trike run?

Welcome to the Boards , Take a good look at it ...

Their should be 4 nut's on a plate , and the axle un-screw's , well this is how it is on my 250R ....

Just take a good look and check for all possible mount's , or get a manual .

O post some pictures !

I am pretty sure my big red front axle did not have those bolts. It is supposed to slide out. Sounds to me like you have the same problem I had, the axle is seized in there. Time to bust out the torch and hammer.
