hey i just got a call tonight from my grandpa, and his friend has an older honda motorcycle that i can have if I want it (you know the answer to that question lol). I havent seen it and dont know much about the condition. It doesnt run but they think that its just having carb problems. it supposedly (sp?) has a 400cc engine with 4 carbs and its a honda. i know thats not much information, but i was wondering if anybody could make a good guess or two on the model of the bike and maybe a pic of what that model looks like. I know next to nothing about older bikes, im more of an atv guy allthough i do have a 1984 honda 700 shadow that i ride. any help at all or info on the bike that im getting would be awesome. I'll try to post pics once i get the bike. thanks alot in advance.
CB500-550+ i would say...the CB400 was only a twin cyl.....there Awsome Bikes, Run forever and Cruise nice....

hey i went with my dad and got it tonight. turns out its a cb550 super sport. it doesnt really look like its in that bad of shape. the front fender is rusted out and theres a few things missing here and there and theres a few wiring problems but nothing major. it has 32,000 miles. the owner thought that it just needed the carbs cleaned and maybe carb kits. I need a battery but im not sure how to tell what exactly to get because theres no battery on it.
Is the battery needed to make spark if I kick start it or pull start it? also, where is the cheepest place to get carb kits? thanks alot guys.

i got it running tonight! i drained some ancient brown gas out of the carbs and flushed the tank really well and it started after a few kicks. it might still need carb kits, but im not sure. i might be able to run some sea-foam through it to get it going a little better. if i do need the carb kits, i found that i can get them on ebay for like $65 for all 4.
im far from done, it still needs quite a bit of tlc. the plastic side covers are gone and all i have of the headlight is the plastic shell. theres also a bad spot on the seat that im not sure what to do about. most of the switches and lights need worked on too, along with a bunch of other stuff. definately a fixer-upper. It didnt come with a title, but can i give the courthouse my vin# and can they issue me a new title once its ready to ride? this is what i have heard.

hey i cleaned the carbs and got mine runnin real good, but i must have slightly bent the floats when i cleaned the carbs because gas will poor out of the bottom of a couple of the carbs after a couple minutes. do i just take the bowls off and bend the floats down a little, or is there a more precise way to fix this? I dont want to bend them too far up or not enough, so im not quite positive how to fix this.
Also, i need a headlight and front turn signals for my 75' cb550f, and im missing the plastic side covers and passenger pegs too. If anybody has some of these parts for sale you can pm me. (sorry that this is kinda in the wrong forum, but i didnt really want to start a whole new thread in the classifieds just for this)

id buy the carb kits so you get new float needles and seats (if its replaceable).
It would definately be worth the 65 bucks
good luck with it
