thought this was preety cool:

Hello

I have a 1985 Big Red that is stuck in reverse. Not sure where the problem lies but I have both side covers off and thing are getting complex.
A shop here told me I have to split the engine and find the broken shift fork.

Anybody have this problem before. No matter what you do to the shift lever it won't come out of Rev. The REV light stays on the I can't get Neutral to start it unless I ground out the safty switch, then it wants to take off in REV once it starts.

Ran all summer like a dream but now it needs some lovn.
I hope I don't have to take the whole moter apart but.......

Any help would be great!
Cheers,

Well the engine is one thing you dont want to mess with unless you have 1. experience or 2. alot of time to play with things lol no but really i have no clue without being able to see it first hand. I would start by joining these forums http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/index.php? for the fact that this one sucks and response times take forever....thats if you even get one. I asked a few simple questions and no one has answered them. Good luck with your trike though man.

So here I am I have both side covers off and ready to take the motor out of the frame. I am going to build a bench to work on and keep clean from other *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited*.

Any help on getting to where the problem lies. Or any info or links on splitting the block or getting this thing out of REVERSE would be so great it hurts.

The first thing you might want to do before tearing into your motor is get a manual. You can download a free .pdf manual for your 250es.
Do a search on this forum for "manuals" and you should find the link.

Hey there, I have the manual and I checking off each number as I go.
It is going to be a battle to get this one going.
I'm almost temped to drop the motor off at the bike shop

I would say if you have little to no experience with tearing down a motor - drop it off at a bike shop. Splitting the case can get kind of hairy once you see what is in there. If you do drop it off at a bike shop, you'll want to re-assemle what you have torn off it. Most bike shops HATE it when someone brings them an engine that is partially tore down - they have no idea what they are getting into if someone else has tampered with it.

If you are patient, mechanically inclined, and have all the right tools, and a manual - I wish you luck, as you may be able to do this yourself.

Good luck - and remember, we are here to help you, but sometimes there is only so much you can do behind a computer screen.

Also - if possible, can you get a better picture of the part circled in green. up close and better lighting

Well it has gone from bad to really fuckn bad.
The last bolt on the bottom is stuck big time.
After hitting it with a punch and 8lb sledge it won't move.
NOW I"VE CRACKED THE MAIN CASE FROM THE IMPACT!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The bolt will not come out!!!!!!!!!!!

you did turn it the correct way, right?

if you are talking about one of the clutch nuts, it is reversed threads. If that is indeed what you are talking about. I have found an Electric (or air) Impact is the only way to go. They buzz right off that way. The manuals point things like these out. If you cracked the case - you are in trouble. You can get it welded or find a used one in the classifieds here or on ebay. Are you sure you wanna take this on yourself?

No it is the engine bolt on the Left side bottom right.
The bolt will not turn the PO has stripped it for one and two it is
bonded with the motor block inside.

I've smashed it with two guys and it won't move.
I have enough room now to fit a hacksaw in there so I'm slowly cutting the block out.
Once I have it out I'll have to get the rest of the bolt out.

Man that sucks

you've gotta, i mean GOTTA take your time on these kind of things.... ive been slowly workin on my 200x... the kickstart got stuck, so i got a manual, and its been about 3 months, and ive just got the parts, should be done by this weekend, hopefully.... had to "fabricate" some tools, come back and forth from these boards.... ask questions... its definately a timely process.... just take your time and have a few brews handy:p (i agree totally with the friend thing, unless they're experienced... he's the one who broke my engine, and fenders:mad: )

It is stuck in reverse and I don't know why so when I find the broken piece I'll let you know.
Now that the case is all busted up I might just try this myself.
I need to build a BIG work bench in the basement

Well I found both cases on ebay for $45.
When they get here I'll have to decide on breaking the cases all open and doing it myself, or dropping it off for the $1500 + kick in the teeth.

I did some looking around and found a running 250sx that I'll use till it dies. By then I'll have this one going. I got a grasp of the deal now. Here are a few pics. I found the cases on ebay pretty cheap.

I need a Honda flywheel puller and a normal puller, so I'm stuck till I find a puller.
Part # 07733-0020000 where the hell can i get this ?
The puller for the clutch I have.
