I may have found a 82 motor for my 250 R that has a bad 2nd gear. will my cylinder/piston fit and is it a bolt in? thanks Jim

yes the are the same engine

You will need to change out the shifter shaft, not that big of a deal but still needs to be done.

Could you tell me why I need to change the shaft? this is the shaft going into the side of the motor correct? if the 82 motor comes with a shifter will it bolt in as a unit? I really appreciate any and all the info. thanks Jim

Yes the shaft that goes throught the engine and has the shifter bolt on to. The '81-'82 shaft is a little longer and will hit the frame.

u can iv done it but i don;t like it as soon as i find the right one to replace it or fix it by spliceing a splined shaft on to fit i'll feel better you should never jerry rig something if your going to fix it fix it right

since you already have the 84 motor all you have to do is swap the part out its not that hard
