I havent been on in a long while, since I sold my 230,but now I have a few questions.. I might be buying an older honda xr50,I dont really know the year right now but its like a 80's model, anyway It needs some work and I plan on making it a decent pitbike, but right now Im stuck.. I havent seen what it looks like and I cant really find any older xr50 pics online so I was wondering if anyone had some they could post or lead me to a site with pics of the older 50's? I already checked google and dratv but Im stumped now.. Thanks in advance, and if/whenI get it ill def. put pics up of the process of fixing it up..

Okay I did a little reading online and read that the xr50s didnt start untill 2000 to take the place of the z50's..Is that correct? I guess if it is than Im getting a Z50 to play with..either way its similar and theyre fun to play on..

just got it today, turns out to be a 1982 Honda z50r.. its mostly there minus some cosmetics.. Needs the tank cleaned and a new carb and throttle cable..Going to do more to it too but thats all it seems to need to run.. Gonna start my search for parts soon.. a regular 50 carb should work the same because theyer the same engines.. right??

most of the z50 carbs will work,i think the newere xr50 carbs MAY need the intake to match the carb.im not sure of this, but this is what ive heard.i have a few z50s.a 79 and 86.. and just got carbs that matched the year..though they really havent changed in like 4o years! the 86 i re-did a few years ago.ebay has a ton of parts,if you want new stuff, look at beatrice atv[i think thats whats its called] dont buy a older, cheap carb, becayse its a low price, chances are its screwed up somewhere like stripped jets people "forget to tell you about",floats are bent to hell and youll never get them right...you know what i mean..i bought a few $25 carbs and all were JUNK..spend twice that and be done with it..i cant really help you with the plastics, ebay is the only chance, factory is way too high..let me know if you find out anything on the xr50 to z50 carb...

Heres a few pics of my new restoration project.. I fooled around with it to night trying to get it running but nothing happened.. Its got compression and is getting spark.. so Im thinkin the carb is trashed.. I got it out to clean it and first thing that happens is the slide was frozen in the carb barrell type thing..iI was able to free it up with a screwdriver and I cleaned out everythig I could and put it all back together and still nothing.. I was able to get some gas to come out the overflow but not a nice stream it was only a drop every few seconds.. Im going to look for new or used carbs soon but heres some pics.. Yeah they are crappy its night and my cam sucks..

Allright I got it running the other day.. cleaned the carb 2 times and then cleaned the sparkplug and she fired up..She runs good but I have a question about the adjustment on the carb.. It runs good but it doesnt idle at all and sometimes it will bog from standstill and when moving it sometimes like cuts in and out.in higher RPM's.I dont think it would be the rev limiter but I could be wrong..It revs up in neutral fine but once going it likes to sputter.. Anyone know what I could do to try and fix it?

from what I have read the XR 50 was started in 2000 to take the place of the z50..all the little hondas pretty much have the same engines and parts can be interchangeable aswell..

dont fool around with the originality of that bike too much. z50r models are few and far inbetween. although not near as valuable as the very early models , but still a nice piece.

I know that.. I plan on getting everything its missing and restoring it outside, except for a bar/clamp kit but motorwise Im going to get a big bore kit and exhaust and such, but I will keep the stock parts handy so I can change it back if I need to..
