Thought we needed a good thread to get some conversation started.

Here's mine:

1) 85 250R (Casper) This is my race trike from this past season. It will be joined by others this year but it's in need of some freshening. I plan on adding a fresh top-end, new rear tires, some Progressive front springs in the 500 forks, new plastics, and a fresh seat cover. Also planning on repainting and polishing alot!

2) 85 250R (Trail bike) This bike is getting an ESR 310 kit along with a PT type 6 pipe and a +4 swinger. However this bike is last on the list, so it may be ridden as-is for awhile. Target date for this one will be TF-07.

3) 86 Tri-Z (Buddy Bike) This bike is the one i'm working on right now. It's staying pretty basic with a fresh motor and MX suspension. I'm adding 250R forks and front wheel assembly, fresh plastics with a top mount tank, custom nerfs and new tires. Also in search of a good rear shock, but I may settle for a Banshee unit.

4) 85 1/2 Tri-Z (Project Z-F) This is the big one. Custom Billet Triples, Inverted forks, YZ250F engine, all new plastics, top mount tank, 250R rear suspension and Elka rear shock. This bike will be custom built from the ground up starting hopefully in January. I plan on getting Casper cleaned up first and finishing up the other Z before I start this one. Lots of time and money. (Hope my wife understands!)

What do you guys have going on?

Looking forward to seeing your completed projects, Derrick. You always do good looking, original work.

My projects:

My R is just about as done as it's gonna get until next summer most likely. I do have a Paul Turner High Rev for it that's going to get mounted up after I get the dings taken out. I just threw on a billet LED tail light. Maybe if I get lucky and have some extra cash I might finally swap out the swinger with an extended one. I'd eventually like to throw some progressive springs and an elka rear shock on there.

The other 3 projects just keep inching along...

1986 350x: I think this one might end up getting finished before the others even though I got it the most recently. It appeared to be in pretty rough shape when I got it but I think it's probably not as bad as it looked. It's got all new plastics on it already and a new front brake line. Plan on getting a white clarke tank for it (hopefully) soon. I'll be looking for a used headlight/kill switch and wiring harness as well as replacing the chain/sprockets. I need to pull the top end and see what's going on in there. That will determine if it ends up getting done before the tri-z. If I can get away with just rings and a hone, maybe new valve guides, I should be able to get it buttoned up good enough to have some fun with. If it needs a full top end rebuild it will get pushed back a bit while I finish up the Z and I'll probably let NOS_350X have some fun porting it. Maybe get the flywheel lightened and find a 1986 swinger to replace the 85 the previous owner put on there.

1986 Tri-Z: Doesn't need a whole lot. New front tire, chain/sprockets, top end inspected, fork seals and that's about it mechanically. I probably won't be able to tear it down for full powercoat and polish until summer but the above should make it a worthy duner to back up my R.

1983 200x: This one needs the most. It's also most likely the one that will get the full PC/polish treatment first since I have spare 200x frames to make it easier. At the moment I'm still collecting parts here and there whenever I have some cash and spot a good deal. Still need a 84-85 type swinger with good intact skid plate mounts, rear maier fenders, possibly a new front maier 250r fender since the one I have is the dull type finish and I'd rather have glossy on that one. Needs a new chain and sprockets, fork seals, seat pan, foam and cover (might re-use the old cover), brake pads, don't know what kind of engine work it will need but I expect a new piston kit + misc. I already have a LOT of parts for it. I'm probably the most anxious to finish this one even though I know I'll probably ride it the least. Don't even know why I have it. It's going to be a sweet looking and running little X though. Just don't know when.

I plan on getting my z some new plastic, but before that there is alot that needs painting, blasting first. Motor needs rebuilding, with a HeyRon porting job hopefully. Gotta find some kind of pipe to put on it, stock just isnt going to cut it. Then replace some misc nuts and bolts, along with a topmount tank fab. then put it all back together.

wow big plans for some of you, i plan on finding a trike or a quad before winter, asap. I can't seem to find one i like locally yet.( affordably) but i'll keep looking.

Well my SX was last summers project which is completed, my 350X was this summer's project which is completed, the Z I got from you is 99% complete, so I guess that leaves the R. I'm hoping to get the R all finished up this winter or next summer. I'm looking at porting, shaved head, 38-40mm carb, BIIIG intake (already have it.. WHEW!), VForce reeds, PT High Rev pipe, billet exhaust flange, some cosmetic work, and some work on the rear end.. Progressive springs too. Its going to be a pretty big project!

Well seeing as I finished up the YTM last winter I guess it is time to tear it down and mod it as much as I can. The 200x may get some some engine work done or I may sell it, not too shure yet.

The the YTM I will swap parts over to the full suspension frame, add the kerker exhaust, clap-on air filter. I also want to swap out the front tire for a narrow one and get some blue plastic. I will also start on the extra motor that will end up in it. I was thinking of combinding the YTM and XT motors so that I can have a manual clutch but still have the pull stater. I am thinking of a megacycles cam, weisco piston, oil cooler, light porting, maybe a shaved flywheel. Basicaly when I am done I want it to beat some 200x's.

I have that Blue 110 project still going. Monday hopefully i'll weld the 200x steering stem on and get the front end on so its a roller. I need to get some money raised up so I can get a powroll kit and make it a challenger for the kids class

The big project for me right now is the 480R. Its been taking me a while but I'm trying to really take the time to do it right and not cut any corners. This bike is going to be just for the drag races and my goal is Trike Fest 07. As of now its just going to look like a regular 83-84 R with a slightly longer swing arm and a bigger motor, nothing fancy planned for the plastics or anything.

I'm also working on my dad's ATC 90 (72 or 73, not sure?) the high low tranny it has been having issues and now its locked up entirely. I have the parts to fix this, and a bunch of other items to touch up on the trike, so I want to have that looking sharp soon too.

Hope everyone posts some good pics!

Looking to get a new fmf fatty pipe so I can get the power I need for drag/sand racing, a set of new paddles, and a bigger carb for the R..

Other then that maybe I can manage on getting a nice 310 kit for it also ( im hoping to be working a deal out with a buddy this weekend :p )

MIK6
11-18-2006, 12:43 AM
My winter plans...
87 T3 gets the SPROCK 300 kit,
86 T3 finish the rebuild, same colors as the 87 but w/ a shorter swinger and a headlight,
get Sparrows 2 Polaris Scramblers (P3's) together,
the Scat Tracker will get reworked a bit, and
I want a 70 project once I find the rite toy.
If I get all that done the 84 T3 project will get started.

Well I just aquired my very first atc/atv. It's a 1982 250R. I am expecting a new CDI to arrive this week. If it runs well, I plan to paint the frame and get new plastic for it. My father-in-law has about ten acres. I just bought it to take over there to have fun on. I plan on leaving it there.

Im wanting a Tri-Z project or a TRX450R.

11-18-2006, 02:47 AM
Well this beast is a pain. Allways something. I'm looking to get it set up for Ice Racing but who knows. I need to put the Cal-Fab on and the Hub extenders. Allso I mounted the 01 Raptor Shock upside down and I think thats why it is so stiff. Overall I need to Tear it down and clean and fix everything. I drilled out the frame for the shock and I have a feeling I screwed myself.

For the Z: Planned is some little odd items to finally finish it off. Grab bar, rear light, rear plastics and then im pretty much done (for now)

Buying more machines, A project watercooled 250R will be entering the workshop, hopefully just a roller. This is gonna be the racer with a 88CR250 motor, find a shock from a modern bike that works in the rear and eventually inverts upfront.

A stock tri-zinger will be picked up for some laughs.

And a 200X for my dad to ride. Stock with some turf tamers hopefully

ha. oh boy a projects thread. lets see.

1.) The 500rs cosmetic rebuild. Got alot going on. Powdercoated frame, new rear tires, Ronnie redid the head, went to all stainless bolts, new tank, new plastics:naughty: Inverted KTM forks. Gota get tem redone for my weight. If funds allow I'm going to Service Honda's new digital ignition and lighting kit. Eventually its gonna get a wide ratio trans. This is the money pit. lol
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m254/louis_mielke/100_0105.jpg

2.) 86 350x. Just a general rebuild, new topend & vavle job, powdered the swingarm, new bearings all around, new tires, 450r exhaust. THis is just gonna be my new runner when I finally tear my R down.

3.) My rider 250r. Today its getting progressive fork springs and a new front tire. Hopefully get some rear tires before the first snow. Also needs a few things Eventually I wanna tear it down, and do a restore with the NOS parts I've been saving and build a new all black daily rider R. One day at a time.

4.)85 1/2 Tri-Z. Complete engine rebuild and a rear shock. This is a slow one, scheduled completetion in 2008. lol.

5.) 1976 Honda xl250s. This is something I'm working on for my roommate's father. New topend, fabbed exhaust and a few cosmetic fixes.

6.) 85 Yamaha YTM225. I have three of these I'm peicing slowly back together into one good rider. I want something to compete with the bigreds on trail riding and stuff. Another one day at a time machine. lol

7.) I'm tring to get started on a hardtail drag 250 drag machine based on a YT175 and various other parts. THis is really just an idea right now.

And thats all my iorns in the fire right now. That and I'm saving for a house. My funds are stretched way too thin. lol

85 atc 250R nothing major I hope , maybe split the cases and check the crank bearings, repaint the motor and swinger, try to retro fit a 450r rear shock, rear axle bearings

84 junkyard X nothing I hope, continue to use old and other parts to keep it going

85 trx 70 get it really really nice for my daughter for christmas

83 zuki alt 125 axle bearings, new muffler

starting on my 85 CR250R for flat tracking, I got a frame and front end, and the motor, first build the trike, then build the motor using a 1989 PV CR250 motor, probably will not get this done for the season starts but hope fully by summer it wil be ready

1989 blaster A arm bushings, new rear tires

Cool thread Derrick.

I'm going to get started on the wifes 200x teardown today. Look for a thread on it later. Got all the parts finally to get fifth gear fixed. Plus I'm going to hop it up a bit where it needs it.

I also got some new forks fror the 350x. I think one got bent in the very first hairscramble at Galion a few years back. I may need your help in rebuilding them though. Other than that the 350 is preety much O.K.

Then there is the 250r mx project. Got the left motor case from Max last week. Thanks Max. I'm not sure where to start with it. SOOO much to do. I've got all the parts I think to have it ready by Memorial day weekend for Smith Road.

With that said I'm off to the garage to tear down the 200x. Wish me luck.

Project T5 is underway and probably won't be complete until spring;

- 500 motor swap
- Motor rebuild with Vforce Reeds, reed spacer and port work
- Frame bracing
- +6 aluminum swingarm
- No link suspension
- Aluminum skids
- Aluminum airbox
- 22 inch tires
- Trail gearing
- Fat bar swap
- Thumb throttle
- Aussie Duner Plate
- Paint

Priority is test and tune of the chassis/500 motor before the glamor bits.

1) 1986 Honda ATC 250R: Pulling the Sabertooth 500cc engine that keeps blowing the 250R transmissions and transferring Sabertooth top end onto new built CR500cc bottom end for transmssion durability.

2) 50cc 4-stroke Mini-Chopper: Putting it al back together after it's head porting and cam change upgrade so we have something to get around on at trade shows.

3) 1985 Honda ATC 350x: Selling this one. It's in excellent condition and I love to ride it, but it's pretty hard on my body after a hard day's riding and my lower back condition doesn't like bouncing around on it very well... This one will make someone a very nice machine.

I'll dyno everything on our dyno when I'm done. :)

Well unfortunately my winter isnt going to be as pleasant as I would wish.
I am currently on a slow recoop from reconstruction surgery on my right shoulder. My plans for the winter is to drop some major pounds and get some strength training to get my shoulder back in order. Also I would like to finish my 250r rider project. Cant wait to get back in the saddle.....physical therapy stinks!

Well if we ever get snow here in Newfoundland Canada, i plan on using my ski doo and parkin the old yeller (200ern) and striping down the top end and treat her to some new gaskets, rings, maybe a piston (depending on the condition) and to top it off a set of rocker arms to get that annoying ticking out of my engine. And a few little things like new wiring, splash of paint here and there make her shine;) ...Can't wait

well where too start on my list: Finish the 2nd TIger 500 still a frame and a box of parts

2nd finish up tiger 250 #1 and get Tiger 250 #2 restored and ride-able #3 get the Tiger 200 up and running still needs a lot.

Build my 617cc drag r starting with a 86 r roller and building from there.
rebuild this engine with lots of extras.

I think I'm gunna put a fighter plane engine on a 3 wheeler for the drag's HAHAHAHA. That might take all winter though. Instead I think I'll just stick with the 310 with a different pipe & a couple more mod's to the motor. I think a Hi performance finagin pin should make It beat Ronnie on the Z.

My little guy who Is 9 needs the Cr60 zinger built, That will be fun.

Then comes the 87 500. That needs a big drag pipe. Also lots of port work so I can try to catch billy In 07. His 500 Is fast, but Billy know's how to ride It also (Dammit).

My Mx-Ride will be a 4 stroke this year for trikefest. A half worked 350x.

If I still have time I want to build the wife an 86 200x with a Nx250cc liquid cooled engine with electric start.

First I am building another '86 350X ,gonna have a few tricks,so I can come race with you Ohio Boy's next year!! ,While getting a jump on an '85 350X 'probably a restoration project'hope to have done by next month, got that one lined up already!! Then I have a '84 Big Red ,just waiting for my spare time!! I am also gonna build a super 4 stroke trike conversion,I am getting ready to make that purchase soon, will have complete by TF!! I have a '83 200X waiting for a makeover and then I have an '85 70 project that will thrown in the mix somehow!!And then I have a TRX 250 and a Polaris Scrambler but those are on the back burner at this time!!!! I think my winter is already booked!!

85 atc70 needs to be gone through. Already started. Ordered stuff from dr atv. Just got it from NV. Sitting along time. All original, tires about 80%. No rust not all bent up. Cleaned up very nice!

82 atc 250r needs new axel bearings for WC swinger, install thumb trottle (get wrid of twist), waiting for custom made piston for big bore, nikasil cyl, K&N, 41mm Mikuni. new reeds, Looking for a rear shock with more travel.

82 atc 250r, waiting for custom made piston for big bore, nikasil cyl, Replace orig. thumb throttle with new one. Install Genesis carb. Had exhaust port machined to fit CR flange. Remove Bills pipe and silencer and install Mugen pipe.

Looking around for a possible PV engine for my TRX.

Gonna play with my IT 490 if I have the time (wishful thinking)

Change orig. front tire with a kenda (already have) for my 87 250sx. Has a leaky plug.

Would like a set of ice racing tires for my 86 250r.

rebuild fatcat shock.

install fork brace on my 86 350x

Derrick - great thread - this will help me put my eggs in a row.

1st - 84 250R- My 2007 Racer - At this point it is just mostly tuning - new reeds - and SUSPENSION. I'll need to find an 85 or 86 front end by spring time. Rear shock needs rebuilt to my weight and I am still playing with the 85 carb on it getting it in check. It will get new black plastics and a matching paint job on the gas tank. I am also going to get a second set of tires ready for it. The 18" lawn tractor tires are fine for some track conditions, now I need either some 19 or 20" muddy condition tires for her. im building a ''streched'' 250x for a buddy of mine. to strech one we cut the front of the frame off and rebuild everything behind the a-arms and in front of the motor out of new 1'' tube. plus it will have a plus 2'' swingarm, iv built a few of these in the past and they real handle well and hold up great.

oh yeah i just put a 350x motor in it and just built a 1 3/4'' pipe for it

So far, I've replaced the fork seals, swingarm bearings, axle bearings, repaired the frame, replaced the exhaust on my 350X, no big deal. It's those little 110's that keep nickel and diming me to DEATH ! Now I need 2 tanks, both of mine are shot. The fun project this winter is the buildup on the race-framed 185. That's gonna be fun, it will be black and florescent orange.

I hope to have my project done this winter. I am using an 85' Kx 250 motor and frame. I am using forks from a 1985 tecate. The radiator, swingarm(+4"), axle, hubs, pegs, and front fender are from a 1984 tecate I foolishly parted out. For a tank and seat I have chosen parts from a 1988 kdx 200. The engine has a new .050 wiseco in a steel sleeve, mystery porting, ProCircuit pipe, DG silencer, Vforce reeds, and a pwk from a kx500. I am using a k&n inthe kx airbox. I still need to get a Kx rear shock, a front caliper. I need to fab a new sub-frame, grab-bar, and steering stops. I dont plan to use rear fenders, but may trim some LT250 rears to fit. I hope it turns out better than it sounds, I definatley have my work cut out for me...

I dont have any pics yet. Sorry. Hopefully soon I can get back to work on it. The picture in my avatar was my 84' tecate. I have a few pictures of the old beater, but they are a little embarassing...
