83-84 kx250 only. Use your stock tecate head on the kx cylinder. Unless it has been sleeved it will probably need to be re-chromed which costs a bit more than sleeving but with greator potential to make power. And it is a more accurate way to renew a cylinder. kx cylinders are in short supply, so be patient, its worth the wait.

You will need the KX piston as well as the wrist pin/circlips and bearing.

Cylinders are unfortunately discontinued, as far as pistons and related components all first gen tecate pistons and 83-84 kx parts are now one part #. There are no specific pistons for the tecate. If you can locate a whole bike for cheap buy it. Its sometimes the cheapest way to go and you will also land the ignition system and lighter flywheel. Kx cdi's have higher RPM potential to go along with the more robust exhaust design of the kx cylinder. However you have to use the entire kx ignition as the two dont interchange. Plugs are diffrent as well a smaller inside diameter of the flywheel, so it wont clear a standard tecate flywheel. I bought a complete running but very tired 83 kx for $250. Worth its weight in gold for parts if you have a first gen tecate. Now its worthy of a warning label.

I used a 1985 kx ignition for awhile. Worked great.

I've got the complete KX ignition. Will buy the cylinder if I ever come across it.

How can you tell the difference? When I bought my 84 it came with a smaller flywheel and stator. And the guy had a spare cylinder that I never got. Now could I have a 83-84 cylinder and just don't know it? I have 2 cylindersand they seem the same.

Look into the exhaust port and if you see a bridge than you have a kx cylinder. Standard tecate cylinders have a single somewhat oval exhaust port with nothing running through the middle. Thats the quickest way.
