So after posting a thread a while back I was told that stock 9 in. 400ex rims will fit my 85 SX no problem.. Well. I finally got them in today and they aren't even close. :w00t:

I'm thinking maybe a set of wheel spacers will help being that I'm already $50 in the hole. Anyone have any other ideas?

I had a few PM's asking if they would fit so I just thought I'd make a post to let evreyone that is/was intrested know that the stock honda aluminum jobbers won't clear the brake drum..

Live and learn I suppose.

Do they even make a large bell 9in. aluminum rim?

Oh my god Chris, I forgot that I just saw a 82 250R for 250 bucks, in our area! It needs carb work (your speacialty:lol:) and the swingarm is off but it's all there!

The 82 still has the wide front tire like our SX's have but for 250 smackers, it seems to be a steal! :naughty:

I'll see if I can find it.

UPDATE .........it's gone already

Oh well... I'd be looking for a place to live if I brought another one home now... I got the quadrunner tore apart in the middle of the garage at the moment.

But you got some room left in that garage of yours don't ya? :naughty:

So does anyone have some rims they'd be willing to trade straight up? :)

Dennis Kirks got 4 on 110, 9"x 9", large bell rims with 3/6 backspaceing, they are ITP T9' Pros and they run 68 a piece from them, sure you could find them cheaper.

Chris, man that sucks. I was told here that stock 200X rims would work on my SX(I'm pretty sure it was wheelie pop who tole' me)& damn if I didn't go & get a set- WRONG!!!!But hey, I recently got a pair of 10" rears from ATCtim that I can't use- I'll send you for what I paid, if you can use 10inchers. do a search on my posts- there's a pic in there. Off subject, but I spoke to Brapp last night, & he said a few of us drinkin' boys oughta ride soon. I'm looking forward to a PA ride!TGG........................................

You know.. It just so happens that I just now won some 2 1/2 inch wheel spacers on that evil auction site. They should help provide the clearance I need. If they don't the rims and spacers will be in the classifieds here shortly.

Me and Jason85atc250r are heading out for a Sunday ride this coming weekend. Kinda short notice... but with hunting season in full swing Sunday's are the only day to ride the trails and pits without getting shot at.

WTF! my 8 inch flat tracker rims that were on my 85R fit on longbed's 85 sx with no problem other than putting some washers on the right side so the rim wouldnt hit the brake drum, bolt pattern on the sx is 4x110 same as the R and almost every other honda on the plannet, you will need at least 1/4 in washers per stud on the right so the wheel will clear.

More trouble... Now I'm over 100 bucks in the hole.  The spacers I got will let the rims bolt on. but it's gonna be way to wide for my style of riding. escpecially in the rocks and such. and now I don't think It would fit in the back of the ranger. :wondering I guesw the rims and spacers will be going into the classifieds here in a bit.

Dude that sucks. Seriously sell what you've got and look into something else. You know I bet something off one of the newer style utility 4x4 quads would fit.

They will not fit 200X. The studs in the 200X hubs are too short for later OEM aluminum rims.

You need a large bell rim for the drum brake.

That don't sound like a bad idea John. never even thought of that but have no way of feesably doing it.

Another problem I seen would be torquing down the nuts on the long bolts as one side would be inside the brake drum. I think I'd just rather pass them on and let someone else that can really use them have them.

Good god!! I'd never run spacers of any length on an SX except for something real small. Those outer bearings support everything and the swingarm is pieced and bolted together with 4 10mm diameter bolts into an aluminum differential. Way too much force for the SX axle to handle. It will bend without you seeing it and chew the inner splines of the ring gear away. It's happened to me with a crappy 85 rearend and huge jumps....

It's an 85 thing.... The 86/87 SX rears are a much better design and I run 200X stockers on one and 85 250R's on the other with no spacers.

Maybe longer studs with 1/2 or less spacers would work for you and save you some bucks. How much do you really need or is it just jammed on there against the drum period??

you know... your not the first person to tell me that! Huffa had said those same words to me just a few short days ago. Unfortunalty I had already made the purchase. I believe I would need about an inch of something for those aluminum jobbers to fit. Unfortuatly they have sold aldreay! :naughty: So it seems like I'm back to just my beat up old stock Sx rims.

anyone have some SX rims cheap? :w00t:
