There is a question you don't see every day. But I need to know.
You see ever since I was 3 apples high I have been fasinated with amphibians and reptiles. I currently have 4 Veiled Chameleons. The mach daddy "Tecate" is almost 5 years old and is the proud father of Gila Lillian and Turk " short for turquise.
Anyways I have dedicated half of my room 10x14 to these chameleons. Tecate is about 17 inches and has full roam over my house, just like my dog sam ( who is a beagle) The babies are locked up till they get bigger. I have spent $$$$ on my other love of that of critters, and need to make light fake rock to build "furniture" for my room mates. You can buy prefabed rock but im greedy when it comes to my cages. My room litterly looks like a jungle. I have experimented with cement and styro foam. Any ideas?

sheet rock mud... well at least its light. I guess that all depends on how big of a rock you need. you can make it out of styro foam and then add the sheet rock mud.

Quite a few years ago there was a product that could be sprayed onto any surface, and when dried it looked just like rough textured cement. I saw it applied to a whole motorcycle and the seat was rock hard, so it was quite stiff. If you could track it down, just carve your furniture out of styro and spray this stuff on it.
How about a thick spray on bed liner??

Theres a way to do this, you get *Edited**Edited* styrafoam block.. carve it out to how you want it to look, then you get this spray on expoxy hardner textured stuff (have no clue what it is) Spray your faom, let it dry and paint it. Bam your done and you have a light weight hard rock.

Im a reptile keeper as well and been since 1990,i keep Australian pythons, bearded dragons and frilled necks in my collection ! Just be mindfull of the materials you may use to make say a fake rock could contain chemicals that may be harmful or even fatal to your reptiles.Post up some pics of your critters when you can.

I don't know if this would work for your application ,but this past year I wanted to do some practical yet decorative speakers out by the deck for when I have parties and such ,so I got some speakers and used the high expansion spray foam and put it on the speakers ,the speakers were 10"x 12" I would guess and 1 can later on each speaker they grew to about 18"X 18",I trimmed them to what I wanted and painted them with some cheap paint ,to make them look like rocks!! Now people who have had a few cocktails won't be tripping over speakers laying around ,they tend to walk around the speakers now and most people can't figure out where the sound is coming from at first,But it is a foam and I have no clue if your critters would eat the stuff or what ,but thats how I've made rocks!!!

Wow:w00t:
I did not except to see this many replies this fast.
Chameleons only eat something if it moves. There tounge can be very strong, even for a grown man like my self. If he misses his prey and hits your finger and your not excepting it. The little bugger can almost pull your finger in.
So the rock must be some what heavy.
Anyone use that paint on granite used for walk ways and wood stairs?
The finish product would have to be used around water and heat.
Id like to post a pic of him on a trike or something for my avatar.
Or just a mug shot.

So the Easteren brown snake, is it the worlds deadly snake?
Thats what I need for a guard dog. So you breed the species native to where you live, then export then to canada and the us? Id like to breed my chameleons again, Both with my large male, as well as his daughters with a new wife and a new boy next door.
Some people think im retarded till they see the babies.
How do you sculpture your cages? I have no plants around here that I can put in his cage due to the cold climate.

Yep eastern browns we had one taking a dip in our pool last summer my house backs onto bush reserve so there are plenty of reptiles about in the warm months, take look at my enclosures i use converted book case's with glass doors installed and for a substrate i use "Breeders Choice" which is a paper pellet type cat litter, makes for easy cleaning.I dont use too much cage decoration just something for the reptile to remove its skin when the time comes.

ive took styrafoam and covered it in layers of JB weld..... just make sure after it drys you wash it real good and let it sit a week or two before using so its not really toxic any more, itll be fragile because JB isnt as tough as they say it is. but thatll be nice and light. my best idea.

I believe it was called "STONE-CRAFT" . It was safe , non toxic , and availabe in all colors. I used it on a spare dash panel for my Chevelle, in Sort of a "TombStone Granite finish" . It worked Great. I believe it is still available at Arts and crafts centers.
